Avelo Airlines is starting off April with a remarkable track record of reliability, earning the trust of top-tier college basketball teams who have chosen Avelo to transport them to the Final Four tournaments this weekend.

Following its achievement of the lowest flight cancellation rate in the industry for March, Avelo has been designated as the carrier for North Carolina State’s men’s and women’s basketball teams, as well as the University of Iowa’s women’s basketball team, as they head to the Final Four playoffs in Phoenix and Cleveland respectively. In total, Avelo has facilitated transportation for 24 men’s and women’s teams, operating over 30 charter flights in the past three weeks in collaboration with the NCAA college basketball’s prestigious postseason tournament.

Avelo Airlines Founder, Chairman, and CEO Andrew Levy said, “Our Customers count on us to get them where they want to go safely, on time, and with their bags. Avelo’s industry-leading reliability in the first quarter, which builds on our strong 2023 performance, demonstrates our commitment to providing Avelo Customers with the smooth, convenient, and seamless travel experience they expect. It is this same best-in-class reliability that has inspired college basketball’s best teams to turn to Avelo to get them to the Final Four and other consequential matchups over the past few weeks. These elite teams recognize top performers when they see them, and we are honored they entrusted Avelo to fly them at this important time. We wish the Hawkeyes and Wolfpack the best of luck this weekend. We look forward to welcoming you aboard your flights home as national champions.”

Avelo has expanded its flight services to include several prestigious universities in addition to North Carolina State and the University of Iowa. These universities include Auburn University, Baylor University, Creighton University, Duke University, Florida State University, Louisiana State University, Northwestern University, Oregon State University, Sacred Heart University, Seton Hall University, the University of Alabama, the University of Arizona, the University of Indiana, the University of Maryland, the University of Michigan, the University of North Carolina, the University of Oklahoma, the University of Oregon, Yale University, and others.

Since its launch of scheduled commercial service in April 2021, Avelo has served nearly 4.5 million customers on close to 35,000 flights, covering over 50 destinations across the United States. Additionally, Avelo has successfully operated a charter service, completing over 800 flights in the past three years. In 2023 alone, Avelo conducted 365 charter flights, and in the first quarter of 2024, the airline was tasked with over 200 flights for various sports teams, universities, and tour operator Apple Vacations.

Avelo has maintained its reputation for reliability within the industry. In March, Avelo proudly claimed the title for the lowest flight cancellation rate among all U.S. carriers.carriers, canceling only 0.1% of its total flights, compared to the industry average of 0.8%. Throughout the first quarter of 2024, Avelo achieved the industry’s second-best flight cancellation rate of 0.4%, contrasting sharply with the industry average of 1.6%.

Moreover, Avelo excelled in on-time performance metrics. In March, 79.8% of Avelo flights arrived at their destinations within 15 minutes of their scheduled arrival time, ranking third among all U.S. carriers. This exceeded the industry average of 77.9%. For the first quarter of 2024, Avelo maintained its strong performance, ranking second among all U.S. carriers with an on-time arrival rate of 81.2%, compared to the industry average of 77.8%.

These impressive results continue Avelo’s trend of reliability, following its leadership in 2023 where it achieved the lowest flight cancellation rate and ranked second in on-time reliability throughout the entire year. These rankings are based on Anuvu’s independent third-party data platform, the same platform used by The Wall Street Journal for its annual airline rankings, albeit excluding Avelo and other airlines not meeting publication size thresholds.
