Brisbane Airport is witnessing the commencement of an industrial project of unparalleled scale, with a $50-million investment aimed at erecting an industrial facility that dwarfs the size of three rugby league fields. The futuristic parcel processing hub for Australia Post is set to occupy a gross floor area of 33,800 square meters, boasting direct airside access within the expansive 100-hectare Airport Industrial Park.

Gert-Jan de Graaff, the Chief Executive of Brisbane Airport, heralded this venture as the airport’s most ambitious industrial initiative yet. It forms a crucial component of a broader $5-billion expansion strategy, which encompasses enhancements to both the existing domestic and international terminals and lays the groundwork for a future third terminal.

“This facility not only signifies a leap in our infrastructure capabilities but also significantly enhances our operational efficiency for Australia Post, ensuring quicker delivery of time-sensitive packages across south-eastern Queensland and beyond,” de Graaff stated.

The StarTrack parcel facility by Australia Post aims to amalgamate its current Brisbane operations into this single, strategically located hub within the airport’s industrial precinct. Once operational, it will emerge as Queensland’s second-largest parcel facility, boasting state-of-the-art automation and security systems capable of processing up to 176,000 parcels daily and supporting approximately 200 shift workers at any given time.

Construction has already begun, with initial earthworks underway, promising to generate around 1,500 jobs throughout the building phase. The facility is slated for completion and operational readiness by mid-2025. It will feature a 31,800 square meter warehouse and an additional 2,000 square meters of office space spread over two floors, alongside parking facilities for 350 vehicles.

In alignment with environmental sustainability goals, the project targets achieving a 5-Star Green Star certification, reflecting its commitment to energy and water efficiency, resilience to climate change, and minimization of environmental impacts during construction. Over 1,000 solar panels will be installed to produce renewable energy, supporting Brisbane Airport’s ambition for net-zero emissions by 2025.

The development joins other prestigious tenants within the precinct, including Martin Brower, Aramex Australia, Superior Food Services, and Air Menzies, further cementing Brisbane Airport’s status as a key industrial and logistical hub.
