For many years, including five years ago, South Bank transformed into a slice of France for one winter weekend annually, offering everything from crepes and baguettes to mussels and champagne. This was part of Le Festival, also known as the Brisbane French Festival, which provided an immersive French cultural experience without the need for international travel. However, the event was paused for three years due to the pandemic. Upon its return in 2023, the festival relocated to Victoria Park / Barrambin for the first time. In 2024, the festival plans to move back to South Bank, scheduling a three-day celebration of French culture by the riverside from July 5 to July 7.

The festival is ideal for those who fantasize about the Parisian lifestyle, offering a piece of European summer in Brisbane. Attendees can look forward to indulging in French culinary staples, with wine, cheese, and macarons among the popular attractions. While complete details for 2024 are still pending, the festival traditionally includes a selection of French wines, beers, and non-alcoholic drinks. The Le Festival market also offers an opportunity to shop for French and French-inspired homewares, gifts, fashion, books, and magazines. Entertainment typically features live music, cabaret, and can-can dancing, along with masterclasses on French table art.

The event will occupy the South Bank Cultural Forecourt and Parklands, operating from 4 pm to 10 pm on Friday, 8 am to 10 pm on Saturday, and 8 am to 5 pm on Sunday. The 2024 festival will also celebrate the upcoming Paris Olympics, happening just three weeks after Brisbane’s own celebration of French culture.

Adrien Do Carmo, President of Brisbane French Festival Inc, expressed enthusiasm about returning to the festival’s original location, highlighting it as a significant moment of coming full circle. He expressed gratitude towards the community for their consistent support over the years, especially as the festival gears up for a special Paris 2024-themed edition.
