The Speedbird Pilot Academy has been met with enthusiasm in previous years, and this year is expected to receive tens of thousands of applications from candidates eager to take their first steps toward a career in aviation. Applications for the Speedbird Pilot Academy are now open as of Tuesday, 14 April 2026, and will remain available until Thursday, 23 April 2026, through the British Airways Careers website. Interested individuals must be between 17 and 58 years old, with applicants required to be at least 18 by the time training begins.

Candidates must have achieved a minimum of six GCSEs (grades A-C or 4-9), which should include Maths, English Language, and a Science subject, or possess equivalent qualifications. Additionally, applicants must hold a valid passport that allows unrestricted international travel.

In previous years, more than 25,000 individuals have applied for a spot in the program. Those selected will receive training from one of British Airways’ accredited training partners, preparing them for a future as a pilot on the flight deck.
