The human, and even poignant, close at Lisbon and Madeira as guests disembarked the Silver Dawn after 140 days by Silversea Cruises, most commenting they now had family on board, more so than on holiday; a farewell, A Feast of Flowers in Funchal coincided with the island’s famous Flower Festival. Visitors were introduced to the island’s life through Funchal’s Central Market and a reception held at Quinta Magnolia’s gardens amidst a panorama of flowers and local dishes served with local folk music, followed by a four-course meal incorporating a variety of performances.

A 140-day odyssey across six continents

Silversea’s World Cruise 2026, ‘The Curious and the Sea’, was designed as a storytelling journey tracing the history of navigation, following trade routes that once linked ancient seafarers and merchants. Guests embarked Silver Dawn in Fort Lauderdale on 6 January 2026, before travelling through Central America and transiting the Panama Canal, then pushing deeper into South America, Easter Island, French Polynesia and the South Pacific, New Zealand and a semi-circumnavigation of Australia, Southeast Asia, Sri Lanka, India, the Red Sea and the Mediterranean, finally concluding in Lisbon on 27 May 2026.

In total, the voyage linked 59 destinations across 30 countries and six continents, with an itinerary structured around cultural access, destination immersion and extended engagement with local traditions, making it the most diverse world cruise in the line’s history.

French Polynesia and the South Pacific immersion

French Polynesia, Vanuatu and the wider South Pacific formed one of the most atmospheric chapters of the journey, showcasing both lagoon-fringed idylls and remote islands rarely featured on typical world cruise routes. A specially scouted 28-day immersion featured calls such as Nuku Hiva and Atuona in the Marquesas, Fakarava’s UNESCO-listed biosphere, alongside iconic favourites like Bora Bora, Papeete, Aitutaki and Savusavu.

Guests were invited into the region’s seagoing cultures during the exclusive ‘Polynesian Dreams’ World Cruise event in French Polynesia, where local performers, storytelling, seafood feasts and a blazing sunset over the Pacific created a sense of sailing in the wake of traditional voyagers.

Semi-circumnavigation of Australia and beyond

Australia offered a distinctly exploratory flavour as Silver Dawn operated a 21-day semi-circumnavigation between Hobart and Darwin, a first for a Silversea World Cruise. Guests moved beyond classic city calls to off-the-beaten-path ports such as Phillip Island for its penguin parade, Port Lincoln for Coffin Bay National Park and Esperance with its surreal pink salt lakes, alongside more familiar calls like Melbourne, Adelaide, Exmouth for Ningaloo Reef and the Kimberley Coast.

Curated overland options amplified the sense of discovery: from the ‘Uluru – Outback Wonders’ overland between Melbourne and Adelaide, including a stay at Longitude 131° and an encounter with Bruce Munro’s Field of Light, to safari-style adventures in Kenya’s Masai Mara and South Africa’s Timbavati region linked to the Greater Kruger National Park.

Immersive shore excursions from Namibia to Thailand

Silversea World Cruise 2026 leaned heavily into tailored shore excursions that connected guests with landscapes and cultures in a deeper way than standard panoramic tours. In Namibia, a 4×4 ‘Sandwich Harbour & Dune Drive’ from Walvis Bay took guests into a cinematic meeting point of Atlantic rollers and towering Namib Desert dunes, while in Phuket a ‘Thai Performance at Siam Niramit with Dinner’ paired a traditional meal with a three-act show celebrating regional performing arts.

On the African leg, overland journeys to the Masai Mara and Siviti Timbavati Plains Lodge provided immersive wildlife experiences, blending game drives with al fresco dining and atmospheric Boma dinners under a vast southern sky.

Culinary storytelling through S.A.L.T.

A hallmark of the voyage was the S.A.L.T. (Sea and Land Taste) culinary programme, which turned the Silver Dawn into a floating laboratory of regional flavours. Four world-class guest chefs joined the journey in Mexico, Australia, Indonesia and West Africa, creating local guest menus at S.A.L.T. Kitchen and leading S.A.L.T. Talks that explored how food, trade routes and culture intersect in each region.

On board, the S.A.L.T. Lab hosted more than 60 rotating programmes where travellers could work directly with local ingredients, while S.A.L.T. Bar poured a collection of around 70 destination-inspired cocktails, echoing the ports on the horizon each evening.

Ultra-luxury life aboard Silver Dawn

As an ultra-luxury Muse-class ship, Silver Dawn offered an intimate, all-suite environment with one of the highest space-to-guest ratios at sea and personalised butler service for every guest. Travellers could move effortlessly between Otium’s Roman-inspired wellness experiences, fine-dining venues and relaxed outdoor spaces, creating a residential feel that made 140 days at sea feel like a natural extension of home.

The combination of small-ship intimacy and long itineraries allowed guests to build real community; many described late-evening conversations on deck and shared shore memories as central to the appeal of this Silversea World Cruise 2026.

Silversea’s evolving world cruise collection

Silversea frames ‘The Curious and the Sea’ as part of a broader shift in ultra-luxury world cruising, with guests increasingly seeking deeper cultural access rather than ticking off destinations. The line’s president has indicated that this 2026 journey sets a benchmark for what a world cruise can be and is already informing design for voyages ahead.

Among these is the 149-day World Cruise 2027, ‘The Three Oceans’, which will see Silver Dawn sail from Los Angeles to Copenhagen via 80 destinations in 35 countries, linking the Pacific, Indian and Atlantic Oceans and incorporating over 50 UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Subsequent itineraries include ‘An Ode to the Moment’ in 2028, promising 58 destinations across 29 countries with 17 overnights, and ‘A Pacific Awakening’ in 2029, a 125-day journey to more than 60 destinations across 19 Pacific-rim countries.

Future plans from Lisbon’s quayside

Lisbon might be the official port of departure for the end of Silversea’s World Cruise 2026, however, from the quayside guests were rumoured to be speaking less about disembarkation and more about what curiosities they might be next pursuing. Having sailed from the French Polynesian islands through to Australia, India, South Africa, Madeira and more, a mood of thanks, to all the people met, the cultures seen, and the precious opportunity of witnessing the world evolve at a more leisurely pace from a ship of unimaginable luxury, was among those leaving.
