Changi Airport, a Headline Partner of the FTE APEX Asia Expo, is progressively rolling out passport-less immigration clearance for travelers, marking a significant advancement towards seamless travel. This initiative will be showcased at the upcoming FTE APEX Asia Expo in Singapore on November 19-20, 2024.

The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) announced that passport-less immigration clearance will commence at Terminal 3 for arriving Singapore residents starting August 5, 2024. This rollout will extend to all terminals by September 2024, transforming the travel experience with streamlined and secure processes.

New Clearance Concept

Under ICA’s New Clearance Concept, Singapore residents, including citizens, permanent residents, and long-term pass holders, will clear immigration at both arrival and departure without their passports. Foreign travelers will also benefit from passport-less departure immigration clearance. This innovative process will utilize facial and iris biometrics, enhancing both speed and security. Automated clearance will also be implemented at Singapore’s land and sea checkpoints, including Seletar Airport.

Expanding Automated Immigration

This move follows the successful implementation of automated immigration lanes for all foreign visitors earlier this year. Since May 2024, travelers of all nationalities have been able to use automated lanes at Changi Airport for arrival immigration clearance. Previously, only Singapore residents and passport holders from 60 jurisdictions could access these lanes.

Maintaining Travel Essentials

While the new system simplifies the immigration process, travelers are still required to carry their passports for check-in, baggage drop, and immigration procedures at their destinations. ICA may also request passport verification on occasion to ensure security and accuracy.
