China and Finland have joined forces to rejuvenate tourism through a multi-city roadshow aimed at strengthening travel ties, with a special spotlight on Finnish Lapland. The initiative, spanning several major Chinese cities, promotes Lapland’s unique winter experiences while also addressing improved accessibility and smoother travel processes for Chinese visitors. As both nations look to revive international tourism in the wake of the pandemic, the collaboration highlights mutual efforts to boost visitor numbers, enhance cultural exchange, and position Finland—especially the Arctic charms of Lapland—as a top destination for Chinese tourists.

Visit Finland, the national tourism organization, recently concluded a successful roadshow in Hong Kong, Beijing, and Shanghai from March 24 to 28, 2025. The initiative aimed to reignite tourism relations with China, Finland’s largest market in Asia. A delegation of 25 Finnish tourism businesses participated, seeking to strengthen connections and promote Finland’s post-pandemic tourism opportunities.

Finland, known for its awe-inspiring natural beauty, including 41 national parks, has long attracted travelers seeking a mix of outdoor adventure and cultural experiences. The country’s lakeside sauna traditions are particularly popular, drawing Chinese tourists who seek authentic and unique experiences. Finland’s northern regions, especially Lapland, continue to be top destinations for travelers from China.

One of the key takeaways from the roadshow was Finland’s well-established infrastructure tailored to accommodate Chinese visitors. This traveler-friendly environment makes it easier for Chinese tourists to explore the country, with enhanced services and offerings designed to meet their needs and preferences.

In terms of accessibility, travel connections between Finland and China are improving. Starting summer 2025, Finnair will increase its direct flights between Shanghai and Helsinki to four per week. Additionally, Juneyao Airlines will continue operating its routes from Shanghai and Zhengzhou to Helsinki, further boosting connectivity and making travel between the two countries more convenient for tourists.
