The onset of the peak travel season is upon us: Cologne Bonn Airport anticipates the inaugural surge in travel activity coinciding with the commencement of the Easter holidays next Friday. During this period, up to 33,000 travelers are projected to depart from or arrive at the airport daily. From March 22nd, the final day of school, through April 7th, approximately 460,000 passengers are expected to pass through the airport.

“Cologne/Bonn has had a very good start to the year. In the first few months, we had significantly more passengers than in the same period last year. We are now looking forward to the peak travel season, which traditionally begins around Easter and continues until autumn,” says Thilo Schmid, Chairman of the Management Board at Flughafen Köln/Bonn GmbH. “As an airport, together with our process partners, we have made targeted preparations for the increasing passenger volume in order to ensure that our guests have a pleasant start to their holiday.”

During the upcoming holiday weekend from Friday to Sunday, an estimated 77,000 passengers are anticipated to pass through Cologne/Bonn Airport. This figure is expected to rise to approximately 107,000 over the Easter weekend, spanning from Good Friday through Easter Monday. Notably, Easter Sunday heralds the transition from the airport’s winter to summer flight schedule. On the subsequent holiday weekend, around 97,000 travelers are forecasted to utilize the airport from Friday to Sunday. The busiest day during this period is anticipated to be Friday, April 5th, with over 33,000 passengers departing from or arriving at Cologne/Bonn Airport.

Spain emerges as the favored destination during the Easter break, attracting approximately 110,000 passengers. Among them, about 49,000 travelers have selected Palma de Mallorca as their preferred destination departing from Cologne/Bonn over the two-week period. Additionally, many passengers are bound for Turkey (around 100,000), Great Britain (approximately 38,000), and Italy (roughly 37,000) during the holiday season.

For travelers’ convenience, Cologne/Bonn Airport offers a range of services to enhance the departure experience. These include facilities for self-service baggage drop-off and the option to reserve a designated time slot for security screening through “CGNGateWay.” Furthermore, passengers can ensure a smooth journey by planning and preparing adequately.
