In 2022, over 11m people visited Coventry, a city in England. There was an increase of 3m from the year before.
The important events like the Commonwealth Games, the City of Culture program, and Big Weekend of BBC Radio 1 have been cited as the factors for drawing such a huge influx of visitors to Coventry.
This improvement in visitor numbers saw an extra £750m added to the economy of the city and has crushed the earlier record in tourism in 2019.
The pre-pandemic saw 10m visitors coming to the city of Coventry and all of them were celebrating that year, said Paul Jones to BBC CWR, who is the managing director of Destination Coventry.
The pandemic had a really devastating consequence on the economy of the visitors, it just removed 60% in terms of value of visitors and volume.
He also added that they were quite confident in 2022 that the year would be great but they weren’t certain if they’d get back to the levels of pre-pandemic times, therefore to augment a million visitors on top of their record year, they were actually contented.
The tourist footfall in 2019 attracted £600m in terms of extra revenue. After three years, this went up to £750.86m.
