The visitor economy in 2022 busted the erstwhile record which was created in 2019 and witnessed a major rise in visitor numbers as 11.05 million people coming to the city. This was a one million increase on 2019 and almost three million increase on 2021.

On 2021, the figures in terms of visitor spending have shown a £250m rise which were below pre-pandemic levels. However, it was also 26.3 per cent increase on 2019.

As major drivers for the growth and development, primary events like Coventry’s City of Culture celebrations, Radio 1’s Big Weekend, and the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games have been recognized with high visitor numbers in the month of May and August 2022.

In a recent economic impact report on tourism, this has been disclosed which was specially made by Destination Coventry, a destination management organization in affiliation with West Midlands Growth
Company.

The Global Tourism Solutions has formulated the report by using its STEAM model.

Also, from 6,760 to 7,354, the number of full-time jobs aided by the sector has increased since 2019. The report has disclosed that there are additional 755 accommodation beds in the process of being developed, all over eight new developments, and help overnight stay visitors to fit in with.

For Destination Coventry, the figures show the first full year of operations which comprise brands Visit Coventry and Conference Coventry and Warwickshire, after being introduced in 2021.
