Denver International Airport CEO Honored with Prestigious 2024 Mineta Leadership Fellowship

Phil Washington, CEO of Denver International Airport (DEN), has been awarded the esteemed 2024 Norman Y. Mineta Leadership Fellowship.

“The Mineta Transportation Institute is the best in class in terms of fostering the next generation of transportation professionals and STEM-focused workforce development. It’s an honor to be selected by this prestigious organization to be a 2024 Leadership Fellow and to be recognized for my contributions to the field of transportation over the past few decades,” said Washington. “Secretary Mineta was not only an exceptional leader, but also an exceptional person. He was an admired mentor in my life and we both shared a love of public service. This is a meaningful way that I can honor such a remarkable man.”

The Mineta Transportation Institute, housed at San Jose State University, is dedicated to enhancing mobility for everyone by fostering a safer, more efficient, accessible, and convenient transportation system. This commitment is realized through rigorous research, education, workforce development, and the dissemination of technology. Established by Norman Y. Mineta, a notable figure with the longest tenure as Secretary in the U.S. Department of Transportation’s history, the institute continues to influence the transportation sector significantly.

The Mineta Leadership Fellows Program is designed to highlight the experiences and insights of leading figures in transportation, focusing on their leadership strategies, challenges encountered, and the cultivation of cohesive, inclusive teams through shared values and vision. Phil Washington is recognized within this program as a leading authority in the transportation industry.

Moreover, Washington had the honor of being the commencement speaker at the Mineta Transportation Institute’s Annual Banquet and Convocation Ceremony in 2021, addressing the graduates of the Master of Science in Transportation Management program.
