As Kerala is facing lack of rain at present, the situation is attracting several tourists to Munnar and other places in Idukki.

As per the stakeholders of tourism, Idukki, on 15 th of August and following week, experienced heavy inflow of tourists. Munnar and other places in the Idukki district had seen torrential rain followed by roadblocks in June-August time since 2018, causing a major decline in arrival in tourists.

However, in 2023, due to the lack of heavy rain, Munnar and other hilly destinations in Idukki have been drawing hordes of tourists. The officials of the tourism department said that all rooms of the hotel and resorts in Thekkady, Munnar, and Wagamon experienced full tenancy in the week.

Paul M.T., the Director of Happy Expedition Tours Private Limited, Thiruvananthapuram, said that with travelers, HP destinations were out of favor because of torrential rain and they got several inquiries from tourists in north India on destinations in Idukki.

Mr. Paul also said that many during the Independence Day week who looked for accommodation in Munnar found it tough to find due to the immense inflow of tourists.

Aju Abraham Mathew, General Manager of Tall Trees Resorts, Munnar, said that the town from June witnessed good tourist turnout.
