Licence is now compulsory for adventure tourism centers in the Idukki district to make sure that security is guaranteed for tourists, said Sheeba George, the District Collector.

The Kerala Adventure Tourism Promotion Society has permitted just eight such centers in Idukki. Zipline,
boat trips, outdoor jeep expedition, hydrogen balloon, hiking, parasailing, water sports and tent camping
centers need to amass permits within two months allotted by the society. The District Collector said that
those who miss to adhere to the rules of the district management would be penalized as per the Disaster
Management Authority Act of 2005.

The District Collector has also directed that unrestricted adventure tourism centers under the authority of native organization secretaries need to shut down. The district secretary of the society for the prevention of cruelty to animals (SPCA), M.N. Jayachandran, said that several tent camping centers are operative on the elephant trails as part of the Chinnakanal panchayat bounds in Idukki. He said that the police have also commanded that panchayats need to take action against these centers. However, those in power are yet to eliminate the tent encampments from the routes of the elephants.
