Dubai Sets Tourism Record with 3.67 Million Global Travelers in First Two Months

During the initial two months of 2024, Dubai saw a surge in its tourism sector, hosting 3.67 million overnight guests, marking an 18% growth from the previous year. This data was unveiled by the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET). The DET’s latest Tourism Performance Report highlights that Dubai welcomed 1.77 million overseas guests in January and another 1.9 million in February of 2024.

The breakdown of tourist origins for this period places Europe at the forefront, with 773,000 visitors (making up 21%), while South Asia followed with 604,000 tourists (17%). The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries contributed to 15% of the total with 549,000 visitors. Tourists from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and Eastern Europe were also significant, totaling 530,000 (14%), surpassing the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region’s 448,000 visitors (12%). Additionally, Dubai attracted 340,000 visitors (9%) from North and Southeast Asia, 240,000 (7%) from the Americas, 138,000 (4%) from Africa, and 53,000 (about 1%) from Australia.

The accommodation sector in Dubai also saw growth, with the number of hotel rooms increasing to 151,269 in 826 properties during January-February 2024, up from 148,450 rooms in 813 properties the previous year. The average hotel occupancy rate improved to 87%, a 3% increase year-over-year. Furthermore, the report revealed that occupied room nights climbed to 7.78 million from 7.28 million year-on-year, with guests staying for an average of 3.8 nights.
