Emirates and ITA Airways have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to upgrade their existing interline agreement to a comprehensive codeshare partnership. This collaboration will significantly enhance travel opportunities and connectivity for passengers traveling between Dubai, Italy, and other destinations.

The MoU signed today lays the groundwork for reinforcing the alliance between the two airlines. It will enable seamless one-stop connections to various prominent cities across Italy and broader Europe through ITA Airways. Additionally, it will streamline and expedite journeys to Emirates’ network from Dubai, offering passengers access to optimal routes, schedules, and connections.

Adnan Kazim, Deputy President and Chief Commercial Officer, Emirates Airline said: “Enhancing our partnerships and boosting our presence in key regions such as Europe is an integral part of our commercial strategy, and underscores our commitment to providing customers flexibility through our partners’ complementary networks. Working closely with ITA Airways will strengthen our footprint across exciting cities in Italy, and key points in Europe. We look forward to fully activate our partnership with ITA Airways in the coming months and providing unrivalled access to both of our growing networks.”

Antonino Turicchi, Chairman of ITA Airways said: “We are pleased to sign this codeshare partnership with Emirates today. This MoU further enhances ITA Airways’ commercial strategy of growth and opens up a privileged access route to all passengers who will benefit the connectivity via Rome Fiumicino and Dubai. This agreement marks the Company’s 35th codeshare partnership, an excellent result we have achieved in just over two years.”

Under the proposed codeshare arrangement, Emirates patrons will enjoy seamless travel to various domestic destinations in Italy from the airline’s hub in Rome, encompassing renowned tourist hotspots like Florence, Genoa, Palermo, Trieste, and others. Furthermore, travelers will have the opportunity to link to numerous European cities such as Tirana, Sofia, and other key urban centers.

ITA Airways clientele will experience a substantial expansion in travel options by accessing Emirates’ extensive route network from Dubai via ITA Airways’ Rome services. The collaboration between Emirates and ITA Airways aims to provide integrated ticketing solutions and effortless baggage transfers, enhancing convenience for passengers. Additionally, the agreement aims to bolster inbound tourism to Italian destinations from various regions served by Emirates, including Australia, the Far East, the Middle East/GCC, and West Asia.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) also aims to establish reciprocal loyalty benefits under both airlines’ frequent flyer programs in the future.

Upon securing requisite governmental and regulatory approvals, the codeshare flights will gradually become accessible to customers through online platforms and travel agencies.

Emirates has been operating in Italy since 1992, currently offering 41 weekly flights between Dubai and its four Italian gateways: Rome, Milan, Venice, and Bologna, utilizing a combination of Boeing 777s and Airbus A380s.
