The government of South Australia has disclosed that Emirates is set to resume its flight operations to and from Adelaide later this year, a move welcomed by both the local government and the tourism sector. Starting on October 28, Emirates plans to operate daily services using the Boeing 777-200LR aircraft between Adelaide and Dubai, offering an additional 4,000 seats every week. Furthermore, these flights are expected to provide 14 tonnes of cargo space per flight, significantly enhancing the state’s trade capabilities.

The reinstatement of Emirates’ flights is poised to have a substantial positive impact on local tourism in South Australia. By increasing the number of available seats and providing direct flight options, the state is likely to see an increase in international tourists. This, in turn, will benefit hotels, restaurants, and attractions, contributing to the economic vitality of the region. The additional cargo capacity also underscores the potential for growth in trade, further bolstering the local economy.

Premier Peter Malinauskas expressed optimism about the reinstatement of these flights, highlighting their anticipated contribution to the state’s economy, especially through cargo. He emphasised the importance of the service not only for trade but also for the potential influx of tourists, stating that direct flights are essential for attracting international visitors and positioning South Australia as a competitive destination.

The return of Emirates flights to Adelaide, initially launched in 2012 but reduced in 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, marks a significant recovery step for the region’s air connectivity. Barry Brown, the Vice President of Emirates, remarked on the broader impact of the relaunch, indicating it would restore Australia’s capacity to pre-pandemic levels. With the addition of a second flight to Perth and an upgrade of Brisbane services to a second A380, Emirates aims to offer a total of 77 flights per week to Australia.

Brown also mentioned the airline’s commitment to contributing to South Australia’s leisure, culture, and tourism sectors, as well as supporting trade growth across the regions.
