With the rising global interest in Veganuary, an initiative promoting the benefits of a vegan diet over the past decade, Emirates has observed a remarkable 40% increase in the demand for plant-based meals from its customers. In response to this growing demand, Emirates plans to enrich its culinary offerings with new vegan dishes both onboard and in its lounges in 2024, enhancing its extensive collection of over 300 plant-based recipes.

Emirates’ Vegan Culinary Journey: A Quick Overview

Emirates boasts over 300 vegan recipes served across 140 destinations in 2023, a significant increase from 180 recipes in 2022.
The airline provided more than 450,000 plant-based meals in 2023, up from 280,000 in 2022.
Vegan meal consumption surged by 40% yearly, outpacing passenger growth in regions like Africa, Southeast Asia, and notably the Middle East.
The most substantial rise in vegan meal intake was in Economy Class, with notable increases on flights to China, Japan, and the Philippines.
Emirates also supports its cabin crew’s dietary preferences with vegan meal options introduced in 2018.
Diverse Vegan Dishes Across All Classes

Economy Class passengers can relish dishes like chickpea crepes, tofu tikka masala, and chocolate pudding with cocoa soil. Premium Economy offers jackfruit curry and chocolate tofu cheesecake, while Business Class presents sophisticated options like roasted cauliflower with ancient grains and a tropical coconut pineapple cake. First Class elevates vegan dining with dishes like creamy polenta cake with thyme mushroom ragout and a warm chocolate fondant with salted caramel sauce.

Emirates is set to introduce an array of new vegan options, including main courses, snacks like fruit muffins and vegan pizza, and desserts such as chocolate pecan cake. These culinary delights are available for pre-order onboard and directly in First Class, as well as in Emirates Lounges, with requests accepted up to 24 hours before departure.

Sourcing the Finest Vegan Ingredients Globally

Emirates is committed to offering the highest quality vegan cuisine, sourcing ingredients from renowned global producers, including Beyond Meat, Arlene, and Bustanica, the world’s largest hydroponic vertical farm. This initiative not only caters to the evolving preferences of eco-conscious travelers but also aligns with Emirates’ dedication to sustainability and providing exceptional dining experiences.
