Royal Brunei Airlines has cancelled two scheduled flights on the Brunei – Jakarta route as a result of the hike in volcanic activities of Mount Anak Krakatau. Volcanic safety alert advice recommended the cancellation of flights as a safety measure for both passengers and crew. The airline took the volcanic ash risk on flights as a serious concern for passenger safety.

The airline confirmed that services affected on 8 September include flight BI737 operating from Brunei to Jakarta and flight BI738 travelling from Jakarta back to Brunei. The cancellations were implemented due to safety considerations linked to the ongoing eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau and the possible presence of volcanic ash in the surrounding airspace.

Flight BI737 was scheduled to depart Brunei at 00:35 local time and arrive in Jakarta at 02:00 local time. The return flight BI738 was planned to leave Jakarta at 06:15 local time and reach Brunei at 09:45 local time. Both services have now been cancelled until conditions are considered safe for operations.

Royal Brunei Airlines highlighted that protecting the wellbeing of travellers and crew members remains its primary responsibility. The carrier expressed regret for the inconvenience caused by the disruption and thanked passengers for their cooperation and understanding during the operational changes.
