The Omni Amelia Island Resort, situated on 1,350 acres along the Northeast Florida coast, is excited to unveil the groundbreaking for the revitalization of its renowned Oak Marsh Golf Course. Scheduled for completion by October 1st this year, the $7.4 million renovation project aims primarily to preserve the distinctive architectural essence crafted by Pete Dye in 1972. Moreover, the renovation seeks to update the layout to accommodate the contemporary demands of golf influenced by advancements in equipment technology, elevate the visual appeal of all 18 holes, and ensure a superior and uniform playing experience for guests.

Leading the renovation efforts is Beau Welling Design, a renowned name in golf course architecture. Beau Welling has gained recognition as one of the most sought-after designers in the industry. His recent project, Fields Ranch West at Omni PGA Frisco, which opened to acclaim last May, underscores his talent and expertise in crafting exceptional golf experiences.
“Our team and I are excited to return to Omni Amelia Island following the completion of the Little Sandy short course in 2022, and we are honored to be working on a layout with such a rich history as Oak Marsh,” says Welling. “The Pete Dye design is a perfect example of why he is one of the greats of our profession, and we look forward to revitalizing his work with modern upgrades that will elevate the playing experience for future generations of golfers.”
In order to achieve the aforementioned goals, the Oak Marsh Golf Course will undergo extensive renovations. All greens will be reconstructed and planted with TifEagle Bermudagrass, while fairways, tee areas, roughs, and green collars will be regrassed using TifTuf Bermudagrass. Bunkers will be revamped, with some being relocated as necessary. The addition of new drain pipes, liners, and sand will ensure more consistent play. Tee areas will be renovated and repositioned as needed, incorporating the innovative “ribbon-tee” concept for flexible tee placements.
Furthermore, efforts will be made to expand native areas to enhance the overall visual appeal of the course. Improvements to the course irrigation system and upgrades to the driving range tees and landing areas, including new hitting mats, are also planned. Existing cart paths will undergo enhancements as part of the renovation project.
The revamped Oak Marsh course will complement Little Sandy, a unique 10-hole, par-3 course, and the accompanying 18-hole putting course, both designed by Beau Welling Design. Little Sandy, available to resort guests and members of The Amelia Island Club, offers holes ranging from 30 to 125 yards, set amidst a picturesque lowland oak marsh habitat. The course aims to provide a traditional yet enjoyable golf experience suitable for all ages and skill levels.
