Finnair, the flagship airline of Finland will weigh up travelers along with their checked-in belongings at Helsinki airport. Finnair has said that this process is intentional and unidentified.

For three months, the airline will weigh passengers at the leaving gateway at Finland’s Helsinki airport. Satu Mannukka, the airline’s chief of ground processes said that they do not request for the name or reservation number of the passenger. Only the customer service agent operational at the measuring point can understand the total weight. Hence, one can take part in the assessment with composure.

“The weighing is voluntary and anonymous, and the data will only be used to optimize Finnair’s current aircraft balance calculations,” the Finnish airline said.

After three months, the normal weight will be considered from the statistics congregated by Finnair and analysed by the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency. This number will then be utilized for aircraft stability and stuffing calculations from 2025 to 2030.

Finnair clarified that each aircraft has a fixed maximum weight to confirm a secure take-off, and this weight cannot be surpassed.

This weight comprises the weightiness of the aircraft itself, its fuel, on-board cuisine, water reservoirs, checked luggage, freight and, obviously, the commuters.
