FITUR 2024, the 44th edition of the international tourism trade fair, is poised to make a significant impact in the world of tourism. Hosted by IFEMA MADRID, this grand event is scheduled to take place from January 24 to 28, 2024, at Madrid’s trade fair center. The anticipation for this edition is marked by substantial growth, with projections of expanding to more than 1.5 million square feet of space spread across nine halls. This expansion aims to bring together over 9,000 companies and an impressive gathering of 150,000 professional visitors representing the global tourism industry from 145 countries. Furthermore, it’s estimated that approximately 100,000 people will visit FITUR over the weekend.

María Valcarce, FITUR’s director, expresses optimism for the forthcoming event, and this enthusiasm is well-founded. FITUR has become an essential ambassador for IFEMA MADRID on the international stage, playing a pivotal role in promoting global tourism. As José Vicente de los Mozos, Chairman of IFEMA’s Executive Committee, notes, FITUR has stood out by being the only tourism fair to run uninterrupted during the pandemic, surpassing other major international events in terms of participation.

FITUR 2024 will strongly emphasize sustainable development across various dimensions, including economic, social, and environmental aspects. This emphasis on sustainability aligns with the growing global awareness of the need for responsible tourism. The event will also showcase innovation and cutting-edge content that is expected to shape the future of the tourism industry. FITUR’s commitment to specialization extends to promoting various industrial sectors that significantly influence tourism, each of which has crafted a comprehensive tourism strategy around its activities.

In addition to the core offerings, FITUR Next and the FITUR Sustainability Observatory will organize a wide array of activities. These activities will underscore how tourism can contribute to the revitalization of regions. The program will consist of presentations and acknowledgments of exceptional tourism initiatives that align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These initiatives aim to combat depopulation, stimulate employment, boost local consumption, reduce inequalities in rural areas, and foster a balanced relationship between rural and urban environments, all while prioritizing sustainability.

Ecuador is set to shine as the Partner Country for FITUR 2024. The strong connection between Spain and Ecuador, with nearly 75,000 visitors per year up to 2023, highlights the significance of this partnership. Niels Olsen, Ecuador’s Minister of Tourism, is excited about the opportunity FITUR 2024 presents to showcase Ecuador’s wonders to the world. He emphasizes their commitment to the well-being of Ecuadorian families involved in tourism, their natural and cultural riches, and their visitors. FITUR 2024 promises to be a remarkable event, promoting sustainable tourism and celebrating the diverse and vibrant world of travel.
