Algarve and Douro Lead the Brand’s Expansion Strategy
The company is now expanding several major properties in the Algarve and Douro regions. These projects aim to attract more luxury travellers seeking private wellness experiences, local gastronomy and nature-based tourism.
Octant Praia Verde is nearing completion of a large-scale upgrade in eastern Algarve. The expansion introduces new Beach Collection suites with private terraces and plunge pools. A new spa facility is also scheduled to open in 2026. The spa will add more treatment rooms and strengthen wellness tourism offerings along one of Portugal’s most protected coastal regions.

The Algarve remains one of Europe’s fastest-growing holiday destinations. Government tourism platforms continue to promote the region for its beaches, nature reserves and culinary tourism. Official destination information is available through Visit Algarve.
At the same time, Octant Vila Monte is undergoing phased development works. The hotel is adding new accommodation concepts, including Vila Alegria and Casas do Olival. The property is also strengthening its food tourism offer through Restaurante Laranjal, led by Chef David Domingues.
These investments reflect rising competition in Portugal’s premium tourism market. Hotels are now focusing heavily on private experiences, local storytelling and wellness-driven travel products.
Douro Valley Tourism Gains Momentum Through Cultural Experiences
Octant Douro has become one of the brand’s most important tourism projects. Located in the Douro region, the property expanded its accommodation through the House Collection, designed to deliver immersive landscape-focused stays.
The hotel also hosted Festival Octant Douro in 2025. The event celebrated the Douro River as a cultural corridor connecting Portugal and Spain. Producers, chefs, artists and local communities participated in the festival.
The Douro Valley continues to attract global travellers because of its vineyards, river cruises and UNESCO-listed landscapes. Official tourism information about the region can be found through Visit Portugal.

The company also introduced tourism initiatives centred on local culture and gastronomy. One major programme connected local residents with hotel chefs to showcase regional food traditions. Another project mapped hidden cultural attractions, traditional crafts and landscapes around hotel locations.
These strategies support Portugal’s wider tourism objective of promoting authentic regional experiences instead of mass tourism alone.
Portugal Strengthens Position in Luxury and Wellness Tourism
Portugal’s tourism industry has shifted strongly towards experiential travel. Luxury travellers increasingly seek smaller hotels, wellness retreats and authentic local interaction instead of traditional resort-only holidays.
Octant Hotels aligned its growth strategy with these trends. Many of its projects focus on nature, gastronomy, wellness and local identity. This approach has helped the company attract visitors from across Europe and North America.
The Portuguese government continues to invest heavily in sustainable tourism, regional tourism promotion and cultural preservation. National tourism authorities encourage visitors to explore lesser-known regions beyond Lisbon and Porto.
Luxury travel growth in regions such as Algarve, Douro, Alentejo and the Azores is helping spread tourism income more evenly across the country. Boutique hospitality brands are now playing a major role in this transition.

Travel Guide for Visitors Planning a Portugal Luxury Escape
Travelers looking to spend time on a beach during a Portugal holiday should consider both coastal and inland destinations. The Algarve is a great choice for beach resorts and good seafood. On the other hand, the Douro Valley features river activities and scenic vineyards.
For mild weather and lower tourist congestion, choose late spring or early fall. If you’re looking for something to do, participate in the cooking classes or take advantage of the local wine and olive oil offerings.
Portugal has also become a haven for wellness tourism. Several new, upscale hotels with spas, yoga retreats, and personal wellness activities in nature have sprung up.
Travelers can find information regarding regulations and recommendations at Portugal Travel.
Portugal is changing the face of the premium continental travel market. The Octant hotel group has been investing heavily in Portugal to provide sophisticated hospitality that also features a unique local experience.
