Special Interstate Services Strengthen Holiday Travel Connectivity

The additional services have been planned to support passengers travelling between neighbouring states and Kerala during one of the busiest festive periods of the year. Special interstate buses will connect major cities including Bengaluru, Chennai and Mysuru with several destinations across Kerala.

The services from neighbouring states will operate between August 18 and September 1, while return journeys will be available from August 19 to September 2. The expanded network is expected to provide greater travel flexibility for people living outside Kerala who plan to return home for Onam celebrations.

More Buses Added From Bengaluru, Mysuru and Chennai Routes

Travellers from Bengaluru will receive additional options to reach various parts of Kerala. The service expansion includes eight buses to Kozhikode, four services each to Kannur and Ernakulam, three to Thrissur and two to Kottayam.

Additional Super Deluxe and Special Fast Passenger services will also connect Bengaluru with several Kerala towns, including Malappuram, Alappuzha, Kollam, Kottarakkara, Punalur, Cherthala, Haripad, Payyannur, Kanhangad and Thiruvananthapuram.

Passengers travelling from Mysuru will have access to special buses heading towards Kannur, Ernakulam and Thrissur. Chennai passengers will also benefit from additional connections, including Super Deluxe services to Thiruvananthapuram and Multi-Axle AC bus services to Ernakulam.

Easy Ticket Booking Options Available for Passengers

Passengers can reserve seats through multiple digital and offline channels to make festival travel planning easier. Booking facilities are available through the official online reservation portal, the KSRTC Neo OPRS mobile application and authorised reservation counters.

Travellers can also receive service information and complete bookings through WhatsApp by sending a “Hi” message to the designated booking number. These options are designed to reduce waiting times and provide passengers with easier access to schedules and seat availability during the busy holiday period.

Reduced Fares Introduced on Selected Premium Bus Services

Along with additional services, fare reductions have been introduced on selected routes to provide more affordable travel options. The Volvo Executive Class service operating between Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam has received a fare reduction, with ticket prices lowered from ₹671 to ₹505.

The weekday service operates from Monday to Friday, departing Thiruvananthapuram early in the morning and reaching Ernakulam through Kollam and Alappuzha. The return journey begins from Ernakulam in the evening and reaches the state capital later the same night.

During weekends, the same premium bus service will operate on the Thiruvananthapuram-Guruvayur route with a fare of ₹961. The morning journey leaves Thiruvananthapuram at 5.30 am and reaches Guruvayur by noon, while the return service departs in the evening and arrives back in the capital after midnight.

Transport Network Prepared for Heavy Onam Passenger Demand

The transport system will maintain regular schedules throughout the festive period, except on the main Onam day. Routes will be adjusted when necessary to minimise delays and improve passenger movement during peak travel days.

Additional planning measures aim to ensure smoother journeys for thousands of passengers travelling between cities, towns and rural areas. The increased frequency of buses is expected to support both residents returning home and visitors exploring Kerala during the festival season.
