New York, USA is set to receive another major airport facility as Air France prepares to launch its biggest international lounge in the airport’s New Terminal One (NTO), in the year 2027. The brand-new two-story lounge, which will cover an area of more than 29,000 square feet, will be built inside JFK’s NTO to offer premium facilities to passengers who fly from New York to international destinations such as Paris and other cities in Europe. This project is a completely new lounge that is being developed inside the NTO of the airport, and not an extension or a renovation of the existing Air France lounge in the airport’s old Terminal 1. The lounge will be able to accommodate more than 400 people, and it will be the biggest international lounge in Air France’s international lounge network, expanding the airline’s premium ground facilities beyond its main hub at Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport.

A New Flagship Lounge Inside JFK’s New Terminal One

Air France’s new lounge will cover approximately 2,700 square metres across two levels, with seating for more than 400 travellers. The airline has developed the design with its in-house teams in collaboration with design agency MARKS Brandimage.

The facility will include dedicated dining areas featuring French gastronomy, alongside a bar offering a selection of French wines and champagnes. Separate spaces for beauty treatments, relaxation and work will also be available, giving passengers access to different facilities before their international departures.

The layout will cater to several categories of premium travellers, including La Première first-class passengers, eligible Business Class customers, Flying Blue Elite Plus members and qualifying passengers travelling with KLM and other SkyTeam partner airlines.

Business Light fare passengers will not qualify for lounge access through their ticket category.

A separate exclusive section will be reserved for Flying Blue Ultimate members, the highest tier of Air France-KLM’s loyalty programme. La Première passengers will receive access to a private area featuring a dedicated dining experience, with a menu created by a renowned French chef.

The two-level arrangement will provide separate spaces for dining, relaxation and professional activities, accommodating different passenger requirements during airport waiting periods.

Paris-New York Connectivity Remains Central to the Project

The lounge investment is closely connected to Air France’s established transatlantic operations between New York and Paris.

During the summer season, the airline operates up to six daily flights between JFK and Paris-Charles de Gaulle. Four of these services use Boeing 777-300ER aircraft equipped with the airline’s latest La Première cabin.

Air France also operates services between Paris and Newark Liberty International Airport, providing another connection for travellers visiting the New York metropolitan region.

Including its Newark operations, the airline operates up to 11 daily flights between Paris and the New York area during the summer season. Its transatlantic joint-venture partner Delta Air Lines adds further services between JFK and Paris.

For international visitors, Paris-Charles de Gaulle provides connections to destinations across France and Europe, while JFK serves as an important arrival gateway for travellers visiting New York and other parts of the United States.

The relocation will bring Air France’s JFK flights together within the New Terminal One, creating a common terminal experience for passengers using the airline’s transatlantic network.

New Terminal One Forms Part of JFK’s $19 Billion Redevelopment

The Air France lounge is one component of the wider redevelopment of John F. Kennedy International Airport, which is undergoing a major infrastructure programme valued at approximately $19 billion.

The New Terminal One is being developed as a major international terminal, with expanded passenger facilities, modern technology, retail outlets, dining spaces and redesigned public areas.

The project is intended to improve the airport experience for international travellers arriving in and departing from the New York metropolitan region.

Air France is expected to become the largest airline operating from the New Terminal One, making its relocation an important part of the terminal’s airline network.

Other international carriers are also preparing to operate from the facility, including Etihad Airways, EVA Air, SAS, Turkish Airlines and Qatar Airways.

The terminal’s development is expected to introduce additional international airline capacity and new passenger facilities at one of the United States’ busiest international gateways.

Opening Timeline and Passenger Access

Air France plans to transfer all its New York-JFK flights to the New Terminal One in 2027. The new lounge is scheduled to welcome passengers as the terminal’s initial phases become operational.

The New Terminal One is targeting an opening in the first quarter of 2027, although the final operational schedule will determine when individual airline facilities become available.

Access to the new lounge will depend on passengers’ travel class, ticket eligibility and frequent-flyer status. Eligible La Première and Business Class passengers, excluding Business Light fares, will be able to use the facility. Qualifying Flying Blue Elite Plus members and eligible KLM and SkyTeam partner airline passengers will also have access under the applicable lounge-entry conditions.

Flying Blue Ultimate members will have a separately reserved area, while La Première customers will receive access to their dedicated private section and dining service.

New York’s International Visitor Experience

The JFK Airport is one of the significant international gateways through which people enter New York. It provides an easy route to visit places like Times Square, Central Park, Statue of Liberty, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the theatre district of Broadway. The AirTrain JFK links the airport terminals to the wider transportation system, including the Jamaica and Howard Beach stations from where passengers can connect to the transportation system of New York City subway and trains. For international travellers, the new terminal and the lounge will offer an additional premium facility for their airport experience before travelling abroad. Passengers who will be using JFK as a connection airport will have access to the entire terminal’s retail, dining and passenger facilities. The lounge will provide dedicated work spaces and areas for relaxing to business passengers. In addition, the French cuisine offered by the lounge and the dedicated first-class facilities will suit the passengers looking for premium airport facilities before long flights. Air France will be shifting its operations to a new international flagship facility at JFK Airport in 2027, where its transatlantic flight operations and 29,000-square-foot premium passenger lounge will operate.
