Caribbean Tourism Organization Chairman Kenneth Bryan, who also serves as the Minister of Tourism and Ports for the Cayman Islands, emphasizes the significance of the second Global Tourism Resilience Conference taking place in Montego Bay, Jamaica, from February 16 to 17. This event marks a crucial opportunity for enhancing collaboration across regional and international tourism sectors.

Bryan is preparing to collaborate with UN Tourism Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili, as well as other regional ministers and leaders from the private sector. The focus will be on fostering enhanced cooperation, exchanging best practices, and exploring opportunities among the CTO, UN Tourism, and various tourism stakeholders globally. He has praised Jamaica’s Prime Minister Andrew Holness and Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett for their leadership in organizing this vital conference, which is co-hosted by Jamaica’s Ministry of Tourism and the Global Tourism Resilience and Crisis Management Centre (GTRCMC). The event is expected to facilitate a productive exchange of ideas through panel discussions, networking, and presentations, with the aim of strengthening tourism resilience.

Chairman Bryan is concentrating on using the conference to strengthen the Caribbean’s unity in enhancing its resilience to unforeseen events, given the region’s socioeconomic growth heavily relies on tourism.“This conference embodies our collective determination to both foresee and adapt to the industry’s challenges. Coming together as one Caribbean enhances our capacity to withstand any adversity,” Bryan remarked.

Coinciding with Global Tourism Resilience Day on February 17, recognized by the United Nations General Assembly, the conference aims to underscore the necessity for resilient tourism development strategies. It encourages Member States to develop national recovery plans following disruptions, highlighting the crucial role of public-private partnerships and the diversification of tourism products.

Chairman Bryan underscored the power of unity, stating, “Our collective vision for a resilient Caribbean, capable of overcoming nature’s unpredictability and other challenges, unites us. This conference marks a step toward realizing that vision, addressing our vulnerabilities while showcasing our recovery and thriving capabilities.”

Dona Regis-Prosper, CTO Secretary-General and CEO, will also speak at the conference, highlighting the importance of collaborative efforts between the CTO, UN Tourism, regional governments, and industry partners. These efforts are key to promoting a sustainable, resilient, and prosperous tourism industry in the Caribbean.“Our discussions in Jamaica will underscore Chairman Bryan’s continued calls for collective action and strategic partnerships in safeguarding our region’s tourism sector against the backdrop of global challenges. It is through our unified efforts that we can achieve a more resilient, diverse, and sustainable tourism future,” she stated.
