Caribbean Tourism Booms in 2024: Islands See Record-Breaking Visitor Numbers

According to Caribbean Tourism progress through the first quarter of 2024, the Caribbean region is witnessing a remarkable upsurge in international tourism, signaling a vibrant recovery and an encouraging outlook for the rest of the year. The allure of crystal-clear waters, pristine beaches, and the warm hospitality of island communities continues to draw travelers from around the globe, seeking solace, adventure, and a slice of paradise. This year, several destinations within this sun-soaked archipelago are outperforming their previous records, showcasing significant year-on-year variations in international arrivals. Here’s a closer look at these top-performing Caribbean destinations based on the early data for Q1 2024 compared to the same period in 2023.

This chart compares the percentage increase in visitor numbers to various destinations in the first and second quarters of 2023. Curaçao leads with a 27% increase in Q1 and a 22% increase in Q2. This is followed by Grenada with a 25% rise in Q1 and a staggering 82% in Q2. The US Virgin Islands and Aruba both saw over 20% growth in Q1, with more modest gains in Q2. Saint Martin, Puerto Rico, and Saint Kitts and Nevis experienced increases ranging from 18% to 21% in Q1, and from 4% to 16% in Q2. Both the Cayman Islands and the Dominican Republic had a 16% increase in Q1, but their growth slowed to 11% and 6% respectively in Q2. The Bahamas had a 13% rise in Q1 and a 10% increase in Q2. Overall, there was a total growth of 13% in Q1 and 5% in Q2 across all listed destinations. Destinations with a sharp change, identified as more than a 0.5% shift, are highlighted.
