Goa Tourism Board (GTB) holds its first meeting

The Goa Tourism Board (GTB) held its first meeting on Thursday where members were given presentations on the tourism master plan and tourism policy, which is a road map for further development of Goa.


Chief Minister PramodSawant, who is the chairperson of GTB, said that the board will work for promoting heritage and culture of Goa, and open new avenues for tourism.


The board will also work for solvingblocksregarding implementation of tourism projects. It will put the tourism master plan into effect that aims to transform Goa into an innovative and responsible tourism destination, while preserving the state’s culture, heritage and natural assets.


“All decisions regarding promotion of Goa will be taken by the board. The appointment of a chief executive officer was also discussed,” said Sawant.


Tourism Minister of Goa ManoharAjgaonkar, who is the co-chairperson, said that Goa Tourism Board will ensure sustainable and fast growth of the tourism sector.“It will play an instrumental role in implementing the tourism policy and introduction of several new tourism services in the state,” said Ajgaonkar.


Currently, the tourism department does not have a tourism legislation.“Whatever available is piecemeal. We have some guidelines and policies. All of it has to be consolidated and made into a single legislation,” said a board member.


The next meeting of the board is expected to take place next year with the forming of the new government. The board has to meet at least once in three months.
