Vienna Airport‘s long-haul flight options are expanding with the return of Hainan Airlines. As of May 29, 2024, China’s largest privately owned airline will once again connect Vienna with the bustling tech hub of Shenzhen. This resumption of service is significant for both Vienna Airport and Austria’s business and tourism sectors, highlighting the importance of the Chinese market. Flights will operate twice a week year-round, marking Hainan Airlines’ comeback to Vienna after a hiatus of four years due to the pandemic, during which they ceased the Vienna-Shenzhen route in February 2020.

“Hainan Airlines, one of China’s most important airlines, is returning to Vienna Airport. After a four-year break, it is once again possible to take off directly to the metropolis of Shenzhen. The Far East is an important market for Vienna Airport, and the resumption of flights by Hainan Airlines is a gratifying sign for the resurgence of tourism and business in Austria and China. We are very pleased to be able to renew our good cooperation with Hainan Airlines!”, states Julian Jäger, Joint CEO and COO of Vienna Airport.

Shenzhen, a cutting-edge metropolis with approximately 17 million residents, stands out as a beacon of rapid economic progress in Southern China.
