Stephen Knobbe, PE, of HNTB, has been appointed as the president of the Northwest Division based in the firm’s Denver office. His role involves overseeing crucial infrastructure programs in growing markets, encompassing highways, rail/transit, tolling, and aviation.

“The Northwest Division is a critical contributor to HNTB’s ongoing success, and we are well positioned for continued growth,” said Michelle Dippel, HNTB Western Region president. “Steve is a client-focused leader, so I am confident he will quickly add value to the region’s clients and programs.”

In his capacity as the Northwest Division president, Knobbe shoulders the responsibility of directing operations and strategic planning across Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Utah, Wyoming, and Colorado. He leads a workforce of more than 500 employees stationed in three offices and various field locations. Knobbe actively engages with civic and industry associations, aids in talent acquisition for the firm, and cultivates strong connections with clients and industry leaders.

Throughout his extensive 35-year career, Knobbe has served as a transportation professional and dedicated leader, overseeing over $10 billion worth of complex transportation initiatives in highways, tolls, transit, and aviation. During his 16-year tenure at HNTB, his client-focused approach significantly contributed to advancing successful infrastructure programs for local clients.

Notably, as an office leader, Knobbe expanded HNTB’s footprint to Fort Worth, Texas, and Little Rock, Arkansas, boosting the workforce in North Texas and Arkansas to over 170 employees. He has been an advocate for diversity across all organizational levels and received recognition in 2019 from the Greater Dallas/Fort Worth Chapter of the Women’s Transportation Seminar with the Ray LaHood Man of the Year Award.

HNTB’s involvement in pivotal and intricate infrastructure projects in the Northwest is reshaping the region. Some of these landmark projects include Sound Transit’s East Link and Lynnwood Link Extension in the central Puget Sound region, Denver International Airport’s Concourse Expansion and the Hotel and Transit Center, Seattle’s Alaskan Way Viaduct Replacement Program, Salt Lake City International Airport’s new terminal, concourses, and parking facility, and Utah’s West Davis Corridor highway design-build initiative.
