The start of WorldPride Amsterdam 2026 was formally marked by KLM and Delta Air Lines at Euronext Amsterdam on 24 July 2026, when the opening bell was rung by representatives of both carriers. Through the ceremony, the airlines were presented as official partners of the international celebration, while Amsterdam was positioned for an expected influx of approximately two million visitors. Thousands of travellers are expected to be carried into the Dutch capital through the airlines global networks during the event, which is being held from 25 July to 8 August.
A high-profile opening was given to WorldPride Amsterdam 2026 through the Euronext bell ceremony. The occasion was used to connect the international event with aviation, tourism and Amsterdam’s role as a globally accessible destination.

By the ringing of the opening bell, attention was drawn to the official partnership held by KLM and Delta Air Lines. The ceremony was held one day before the programme was due to begin, allowing the arrival of visitors and the opening of WorldPride to be highlighted together.
Approximately two million visitors from around the world are expected to be welcomed by Amsterdam during WorldPride. As a result, one of the most significant visitor movements associated with an international event in the city is expected to be generated.

A wide range of accommodation, hospitality, cultural and transport services is likely to be used by arriving visitors. The tourism impact will therefore be felt beyond the scheduled celebrations. Demand is expected to be distributed across hotels, restaurants, museums, retail districts, entertainment venues and public transport networks.
Amsterdam will also be presented to an international audience as a city where major cultural events can be supported by strong air connectivity. Its position as a European visitor hub will be reinforced through the movement of travellers from numerous long-haul and short-haul markets.
Although the two-million figure reflects expected attendance rather than confirmed airline passenger numbers, substantial international demand is anticipated. Thousands of those visitors are expected to be brought to Amsterdam through the global networks operated by KLM and Delta Air Lines.
International accessibility is being placed at the centre of the partnership. Travellers from all 160 KLM destinations are being connected with Amsterdam through the carrier’s network, while additional access is being supported by Delta Air Lines.
The value of those connections will be especially important for visitors travelling from countries where direct access to Amsterdam may not be available. Connecting itineraries can be completed through the airlines networks, allowing WorldPride to be reached from a much broader range of origins.
Through this aviation support, the event is not being treated only as a local celebration. It is being presented as an international travel occasion whose reach depends heavily on cross-border mobility and reliable air services.
WorldPride Amsterdam 2026 is being held from 25 July until 8 August. During that period, international visitors will be offered a programme extending across prominent public spaces and recognised visitor areas in Amsterdam.
A shared boat is set to be entered by KLM and Delta Air Lines in the Canal Parade. The airlines will also be represented in the WorldPride March, while a joint booth will be hosted at WorldPride Village on Museumplein.
These activities will place the partnership within some of Amsterdam’s most recognisable urban settings. The canals are already regarded as a defining part of the city’s tourism identity, while Museumplein is surrounded by major cultural institutions and is frequently visited by international travellers.
Through the use of these locations, the WorldPride programme will be connected with Amsterdam’s wider destination appeal. Cultural exploration, city breaks and event-led travel can therefore be combined by visitors during their stay.
A message of inclusion is being attached to the travel experience by both airlines. An environment in which passengers and employees can feel welcomed, respected and safe is being promoted through their participation.
For international travellers, destination choice can be influenced by more than prices, flight availability and accommodation. Personal security, acceptance and the ability to participate openly in public events can also be considered when travel decisions are made.
Amsterdam is being presented during WorldPride as a destination where visitors from different backgrounds can gather. That positioning is being supported by the visibility of the airlines throughout the programme.
The partnership is also being extended beyond public branding. Six international LGBTIQ+ representatives are being hosted by KLM at Pride House through a special invitation programme. Pride House is being based at Hotel Sofitel Legend The Grand in Amsterdam. The representatives are being welcomed from countries where open participation in Pride or the expression of identity may not always be possible.
Pride-related activity has also been carried beyond the Netherlands through selected air services. Two special Pride flights have been operated by KLM during 2026.
An LGBTIQ+ crew and allies were carried to Toronto on 28 June, when Pride was being held in the Canadian city. On 24 July, a KLM Cityhopper flight was operated to Berlin before the celebration of Berlin Pride.
Through these services, connections were created between Amsterdam, Toronto and Berlin. A wider international travel dimension was therefore added to the WorldPride partnership.
These flights also demonstrated how aviation can be incorporated into cultural-event travel. Rather than being treated simply as transport between two airports, the journey itself was included within the broader programme.
Over The Rainbow is marking its fifteenth anniversary in 2026. The internal network is used by LGBTIQ+ employees and allies, and its work is directed towards awareness, connection and an inclusive working environment within KLM.
Major international gatherings can produce concentrated travel demand over a limited period. For Amsterdam, WorldPride is expected to attract visitors who may also experience the city’s museums, historic streets, canal network, nightlife and hospitality sector.
Longer stays may be encouraged because the programme is being spread across approximately two weeks. Rather than being concentrated into a single day, travel can be planned around different marches, gatherings and cultural activities.
Opportunities may consequently be created for neighbouring districts and nearby Dutch destinations. Day trips can be incorporated into Amsterdam-based itineraries, while visitor spending may be distributed across a larger geographic area.
However, no confirmed figures have been released for airline bookings, hotel occupancy or visitor expenditure linked specifically to WorldPride Amsterdam 2026. The estimated attendance should therefore not be presented as a confirmed measurement of tourism revenue or passenger traffic.
Higher demand may be experienced across flights, hotels and local transport during the programme. Visitors will therefore be better served when bookings, travel documents and airport transfers are checked before departure.
Entry requirements will continue to be determined by nationality, passport status and the traveller’s personal circumstances. WorldPride attendance does not replace ordinary immigration rules, and no special visa arrangement has been announced through the airline partnership.
Flight schedules and baggage conditions should be confirmed directly before travel. Additional time may also be needed around popular programme dates because greater passenger and visitor volumes could be encountered.
Within Amsterdam, public transport and walking are expected to remain important for movement between venues. Travellers should be prepared for crowd-control measures, temporary access changes and altered routes around major public gatherings.
The Euronext ceremony has been used to open WorldPride Amsterdam 2026 while placing global aviation at the centre of the event’s international reach. KLM and Delta Air Lines have been presented not only as transport providers but also as official partners supporting visitor access.
Amsterdam’s expected reception of approximately two million visitors gives the partnership a clear travel and tourism dimension. Passenger movement, hotel demand, cultural participation and city-wide spending are all likely to be influenced during the programme.
Through the ceremony, the shared WorldPride activities and the airlines extensive networks, the Netherlands has been placed before a large global travel audience. Amsterdam is therefore being promoted as both the host of an international celebration and a highly connected European destination.
