Canada Halloween Travel Brings Castle Scares, Ghost Walks and Theme Park Nights
Canada’s leading Halloween destinations are preparing for a busy 2026 season as Quebec City, Montréal, Toronto, Niagara Falls and Vancouver turn October into a major travel period. The programme ranges from historic ghost stories and lantern-lit streets to amusement park scares, family trails, haunted houses, costume nights and seasonal food experiences.

For travellers, the appeal is not limited to one evening of trick-or-treating. These cities offer full weekend breaks with hotels, airports, restaurants, heritage attractions and after-dark entertainment. Halloween falls on Saturday, 31 October in 2026, giving domestic and international visitors a strong reason to plan longer stays around the final weekend of the month.
Quebec City Turns History Into Halloween Theatre
Quebec City is among Canada’s most atmospheric Halloween destinations because its old streets already carry a sense of age, mystery and drama. The walled city, stone buildings and autumn weather create a natural setting for ghost stories without relying on large commercial attractions.
Halloween on the Plains of Abraham runs from 1 October to 17 November 2026. The programme brings seasonal activities to one of the city’s best-known historic landscapes. Visitors can also join Ghost Tours of Québec, which runs until 1 November and explores tales of crime, executions, strange sightings and tragedies linked to Old Québec.
The Citadelle of Québec adds another historic layer through night tours featuring stories and legends connected with the military site. These experiences make Quebec City particularly suitable for travellers who prefer heritage, storytelling and atmosphere over intense haunted-house scares.
Old Québec is also a strong base for restaurants, cafés and evening drinks. Visitors can combine a ghost walk with French-Canadian dining in the Petit-Champlain and Old Port areas. The city’s food scene gives the Halloween trip a more refined feel, especially for couples and older travellers.
Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport, known as YQB, is the principal gateway. American Airlines introduced seasonal New York service in 2026, while Air Canada has expanded the airport experience with a premium lounge. Hôtel Clarendon and Fairmont Le Château Frontenac are among the central accommodation choices for visitors wanting easy access to Old Québec after dark.

Montréal Offers Halloween for Families, Food Lovers and Nightlife Visitors
Montréal delivers Canada’s most diverse urban Halloween programme. The city combines large public events, amusement park fright nights, family activities, cultural performances, costume parties and food-led experiences across several districts.
One of the season’s major attractions is Lune Noire at Parc Jean-Drapeau, running from 9 to 31 October. The event transforms the Floralies Gardens and nearby canals into a Halloween landscape with installations and family activities. On selected evenings, La Noce des Canaux adds a ticketed boat-based mystery experience after dark.
La Ronde remains an important draw for families and thrill-seekers. Its Kids Pumpkin Festival runs from 3 to 25 October, offering seasonal rides, entertainment and family programming. The park then shifts towards Fright Fest, with haunted houses, scare zones, roaming characters and night-time rides.
For travellers who want a more central city experience, SOS Halloween at SOS Labyrinthe in the Old Port runs from 3 October to 1 November. The maze adds an after-dark adventure to Montréal’s waterfront area, where visitors can also find restaurants, cocktail bars and entertainment venues.
Montréal’s Halloween offer is especially strong for adults. Concerts, cabaret shows, burlesque performances, horror film events and costume-focused nightlife create a late-night calendar that goes beyond conventional haunted attractions. Day of the Dead programming around Centre Eaton and Time Out Market adds mariachi performances, face painting, sugar skull activities, pop-ups and themed food and drinks.
Montréal–Trudeau International Airport, or YUL, provides a major international gateway, with non-stop links from nearly 150 destinations across Africa, Asia, Europe, North America and South America. Hôtel Place d’Armes is well positioned for Old Montréal activities, while the Montréal Airport Marriott is useful for passengers with early or late flights.

Toronto and Vaughan Lead Ontario’s Big Halloween Nights
Toronto and nearby Vaughan offer Ontario’s biggest entertainment-focused Halloween experiences. The pairing works well for travellers who want both city nightlife and theme-park intensity during the same trip.
Legends of Horror at Casa Loma is one of Toronto’s defining October attractions. Running on selected dates from 3 to 31 October, it transforms the Gothic Revival castle, gardens and tunnels into an immersive walking experience. The attraction is particularly distinctive because Casa Loma’s architecture already resembles a dramatic film setting.
Toronto also offers ghost walks, harbour storytelling tours and Halloween events across neighbourhoods. Church Street in the Church-Wellesley Village is a major focal point on 31 October, when thousands of people gather in elaborate costumes. The area becomes one of Canada’s largest public Halloween street celebrations, with an atmosphere that moves from family-friendly early evening activity to a lively late-night party.
In Vaughan, Canada’s Wonderland extends the season from late September into early November. Tricks and Treats, running on selected dates from 26 September to 1 November, offers costume contests, children’s entertainment and trick-or-treat stations. Halloween Haunt then brings a more intense night programme with mazes, scare zones, live shows and rides in darkness.
Toronto Pearson International Airport, known as YYZ, is Canada’s leading international aviation gateway and a major Air Canada hub. More than 76 scheduled and charter airlines serve the airport, giving the Toronto-Vaughan area the strongest air access in the country. Fairmont Royal York is a central downtown option, while Vaughan hotels near Canada’s Wonderland suit visitors prioritising the theme park.
Niagara Falls Adds Horror to Canada’s Best-Known Tourism Landscape
Niagara Falls is known globally for its waterfalls, but Halloween adds a darker and more playful reason to visit. The destination combines haunted attractions, family activities, bright entertainment districts and the nightly illumination of the Falls.

Haunt Manor is the headline attraction for horror fans. Located on Lundy’s Lane, it operates on selected October nights and features nine attractions under one ticket. Visitors can expect haunted houses, hayrides, themed trails, scare zones and maze-style environments. Its setting away from the main Falls district helps create a dedicated evening attraction for travellers who want serious Halloween entertainment.
Closer to the Falls, the Clifton Hill Halloween Trick-or-Treat Trail takes place on 25 October. It is designed for younger visitors, with mystery stops, treats and family activities. Frightmare in the Falls on 23 October and other late-October events add more options around the destination.
Niagara’s advantage is that the holiday experience can be combined with landmark sightseeing. Travellers can view the illuminated Falls, explore Clifton Hill’s attractions, eat in the Fallsview district and stay in hotels overlooking the river or close to the entertainment zone.
Toronto Pearson is the main international arrival airport for Niagara Falls visitors. The drive takes about 90 minutes depending on traffic. Hilton Hotel and Suites Niagara Falls/Fallsview and Clifton Victoria Inn are practical bases for visitors who want to stay close to the main attractions.
Vancouver Brings a West Coast Halloween Break
Vancouver offers a different type of Halloween trip. Instead of relying on a single event district, the city provides a mix of urban entertainment, autumn scenery, food culture and outdoor experiences. This makes it suitable for travellers who want Halloween included within a broader west coast holiday.
The city’s strongest seasonal appeal comes from its ability to combine family activities, heritage sites, gardens, waterfront walks and costume nightlife. Visitors can explore neighbourhood restaurants and cafés, attend seasonal attractions, then extend their stay with trips to Stanley Park, Granville Island, North Vancouver or the surrounding mountain landscapes.

Vancouver International Airport, or YVR, supports this travel market with wide domestic and international connectivity, particularly across the Asia-Pacific region. Downtown hotels are best for nightlife, dining and waterfront access, while Richmond airport hotels are useful for travellers prioritising convenient flight connections.

A Strong October Opportunity for Canadian Tourism
Canada’s 2026 Halloween season shows how destinations can turn a single night into a longer travel experience. Quebec City brings heritage and ghost stories. Montréal blends culture, food and fright nights. Toronto and Vaughan offer large-scale entertainment. Niagara Falls pairs haunted attractions with a world-famous landscape, while Vancouver adds a west coast city break.
For airlines, hotels, restaurants and attraction operators, the season creates valuable demand in a traditionally quieter travel month. For visitors, it offers an October journey shaped by autumn colour, local culture and memorable after-dark experiences.
Canada is transforming October 2026 into a major seasonal travel opportunity, with Halloween events stretching from British Columbia’s haunted amusement parks to Nova Scotia’s historic villages and Newfoundland and Labrador’s community trails.
Ontario leads in scale. Toronto and Vaughan offer Casa Loma’s Legends of Horror, Halloween Haunt at Canada’s Wonderland and city-wide costume celebrations. Niagara Falls adds Haunt Manor, Clifton Hill family programming and illuminated night-time views of the Falls. Morrisburg’s Pumpkinferno brings thousands of glowing pumpkins to Upper Canada Village, while Kingston’s Fort Fright uses Fort Henry’s military setting for a darker heritage experience.
Quebec offers two distinct Halloween breaks. Québec City uses its fortified streets, historic sites and ghost tours to create a heritage-led atmosphere. Montréal combines La Ronde’s Fright Fest, Parc Jean-Drapeau’s Lune Noire, Old Port mazes, seasonal markets and late-night entertainment.

Western Canada also has a strong calendar. Vancouver’s Fright Nights at Playland and Canyon Frights at Capilano Suspension Bridge Park provide rides, haunted houses and forest lighting. Calgary hosts ScreamFest, Pumpkins After Dark, Ghouls’ Night Out and family activities at Calaway Park.
Atlantic Canada gives travellers a more local and historic experience. Nova Scotia’s programme includes Kentville Pumpkin People, Louisbourg’s Sinister Soiree and haunted trails. Prince Edward Island features candlelit heritage events and ghost walks, while Newfoundland and Labrador lists dozens of seasonal events, including haunted farm trails and pumpkin walks.
