IHG Hotels & Resorts, a global leader in the hospitality industry, has unveiled plans to introduce its inaugural Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants location in Italy. This new addition to IHG’s rapidly expanding luxury and lifestyle collection, which ranks as the world’s second-largest, is set to open its doors in Sicily during the latter half of 2025 through a management agreement with Società Turistica Alberghiera Taorminese.

This announcement of a Kimpton hotel in Sicily is part of IHG’s continued push into the luxury and lifestyle sector, following six openings and agreements in 2023. Highlights include the debut of the first urban Six Senses in Rome, the launch of the InterContinental Rome Ambasciatori Palace, and the Hotel Indigo Florence. Additionally, new Hotel Indigo locations in Turin and Trieste are on the horizon, alongside the premiere of IHG’s Vignette Collection with Hotel Alexandra in Rome slated for 2025.

The upcoming hotel, situated in the scenic hillside town of Taormina along the eastern coast of the island, aims to blend local heritage with Kimpton’s signature flair for stylish, unconventional, and highly personalized experiences. The property will feature 59 boutique bedrooms and offer exclusive dining options attractive to both guests and local residents. It will also boast a breakfast room and bar terrace with sweeping views from Calabria to the Bay of Isolabella.

True to Kimpton’s holistic approach to wellness, which seeks to foster community and offer healthier lifestyle choices, the Sicilian Kimpton will include an outdoor Mediterranean garden, a 20-meter swimming pool, and a tennis court, enhancing the overall guest experience.

(Mrs) Willemijn Geels, VP Development, Europe, IHG Hotels & Resorts, commented: “Italy has long been known for its reputation of luxury travel, breath taking coastal locations, and vibrant communities – and our growth strategy in the country has been designed to complement this. Following a surge of activity in 2023, which saw us more than double our luxury and lifestyle offerings in this market, we’re now excited to be partnering with Società Turistica Alberghiera Taorminese to further expand our presence in Italy with this boutique lifestyle property on the picturesque island of Sicily. This expansion underscores the demand, and trust, from our owners to embed IHG’s luxury and lifestyle portfolio in one of Europe’s most coveted leisure destinations. We look forward to delivering exceptional experiences to our guests and helping them create unforgettable memories once we open our doors in the second half of 2025.”

Established in 1981 by the innovative hotel entrepreneur, Bill Kimpton, the Kimpton brand was at the forefront of introducing the boutique hotel and restaurant concept that has now become a standard in the hospitality industry. In 2018, IHG took over the Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants brand, leading its growth into Europe and other regions. The addition of the Kimpton property in Sicily expands Kimpton’s global collection, which features notable locations such as Kimpton Vividora in Barcelona, Kimpton St Honoré in Paris, and Kimpton Fitzroy in London.

Every Kimpton Hotel & Restaurant is crafted to foster sincere human connections with its unique, highly personalized service that leads to meaningful, unplanned guest experiences. By blending a spirit of genuine hospitality with distinctive, creative hotel designs, Kimpton creates authentic moments for both locals and travelers to interact effortlessly. The forthcoming Kimpton in Sicily will faithfully embody this philosophy, marking Kimpton’s introduction to the Italian market.

The Sicilian Kimpton represents IHG Hotels & Resorts’ 30th establishment in Italy, expanding a collection that includes eight Kimpton hotels across the UK and continental Europe. This addition is part of Kimpton’s extensive global network, which comprises 78 hotels in 12 countries with a total of 13,721 bedrooms. Looking ahead, Kimpton is set to welcome 54 more hotels into its fold, thereby exceeding the 100-hotel landmark and extending its presence to 20 countries by 2025.
