The Port Purcell community is poised for aesthetic enhancement through a recent agreement between the government and local developers, JOMA Properties Ltd, for a new boutique hotel project. JOMA, a BVI-based company operational since 1937 with a diverse portfolio that includes office buildings, warehouse complexes, and marina facilities on Tortola, is at the helm of this development.

The deal with JOMA entails the construction of a 65-room boutique hotel featuring a restaurant, bar, retail shop, fitness center, and more, alongside an upgrade to the marina facilities in the Port Purcell area. Premier Dr. Natalio Wheatley highlighted the project as a significant investment from JOMA, signifying strong investor confidence in the BVI economy and its growth potential. He expressed gratitude towards JOMA for their substantial commitment to the country’s development, especially during this period.

The Premier praised JOMA’s development plans and renderings, noting their potential to transform the current warehouse-dominated area. He also mentioned the job creation aspect of the project, with JOMA’s intention to primarily employ local contractors, subcontractors, and labor force.

These developments are anticipated to bolster business development, entrepreneurship, and job opportunities upon completion. Furthermore, the new hotel is expected to complement the runway expansion at Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport, potentially driving up accommodation demand.

The need for greater investment in tourism, the territory’s second-largest revenue source, has been a common call from opposition members and the public alike. In response, Premier Wheatley discussed his plans to expand and diversify the BVI’s tourism offerings. This strategy aims to not only boost business in traditional areas but also elevate the territory’s reputation as a prime location for meetings, conferences, exhibitions, live music events, and music festivals, among other activities.
