In the Valley, as the security is slowly improving and tranquility at the Line of Control due to the constant border ceasefire between the troops of India and Pakistan, the border areas, which earlier was kind of no-go areas for tourists, have now been opened up to enhance border tourism. This has prompted the locals to change their houses into homestays for the tourists.

The border regions of Gurez located in Bandipora district of north Kashmir and Teetwal in the border district of Kupwara, have been opened up by the Tourism Department for tourists. Both Gurez and Teetwal are situated quite near to the Line of Control and have been quiet from the time India and Pakistan have agreed in February 2021 to stick to the November 2003 border ceasefire pact strictly.

A resident of Gurez mentioned that with the guns getting quiet on both sides of LoC, the residents are enjoying a new life. For the first time, they are living without any fear. And this noticeable change on the ground has been advantageous to them as well as Gurez has at present been thrown open for the tourists.

Fazl ul Haseeb, Director Tourism Kashmir, said that now anyone can visit and travel to Gurez and Teetwal border regions without any fear. No permission is required for visiting these places. The tourists are visiting the places and enjoying the natural beauty, he said.
