The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning that Delhi and surrounding regions will continue to grapple with dense fog conditions for the next 4-5 days, with no immediate relief in sight. This persistent foggy weather has already led to significant disruptions in air travel, resulting in the cancellation of 17 flights and the delays of an additional 30.

The dense fog has blanketed large parts of the city, severely impacting visibility and causing considerable inconvenience to residents and travelers alike. The IMD’s forecast indicates that this weather pattern is expected to continue, with cold wave conditions exacerbating the situation. Minimum temperatures in the region have been recorded at notably lower levels than usual for this time of the year, contributing to the intensity and persistence of the fog.

The adverse weather conditions have particularly affected air traffic, leading to major disruptions at the Delhi airport. The cancellation of 17 flights has left many passengers stranded, while delays on 30 more flights have caused widespread scheduling chaos. Travelers are advised to check the status of their flights and plan accordingly, as further disruptions are expected in the coming days.

This spell of dense fog and cold wave conditions is part of a larger pattern affecting North India. The IMD has been closely monitoring the situation, issuing regular updates and advisories. Authorities are urging residents to exercise caution, particularly when traveling, and to stay informed about weather conditions.

According to the IMD, jet stream winds are currently over the plains of North India, traveling at 140–150 knots. On Wednesday, areas like Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand are predicted to experience sporadic light rain or snowfall due to this phenomenon.

It is expected that many parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi will be covered by dense to very dense fog for several hours during the night and early morning, continuing until Thursday night. In certain areas of these regions, similar cloudy conditions are anticipated from Friday morning to Sunday morning. In addition, the IMD forecasts dense to extremely dense fog in some areas of Uttar Pradesh from Tuesday through Thursday morning, with dense fog in a few isolated locations for the next three days. On Wednesday and Thursday mornings, similar fog conditions are expected to affect Uttarakhand and northern Madhya Pradesh.

According to the IMD, cold wave conditions, ranging from mild to severe, will affect a large portion of Punjab on Tuesday and Wednesday. The effects will persist into Thursday and Saturday in some areas. From Tuesday to Saturday, areas of Chandigarh, Delhi, and Haryana are predicted to experience similar cold wave conditions.

There is a possibility of cold wave conditions in certain areas of northern Rajasthan between Tuesday and Thursday, and in Western Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday. Additionally, the IMD forecasts ground frost conditions for Tuesday and Wednesday in Uttarakhand.
