JAL Leads as First Airline Group to Partner with the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) Emphasizing sustainable tourism as a pivotal element of the government’s “The New Tourism Nation Promotion Basic Plan” for inbound tourism recovery, the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) describes it as tourism that comprehensively considers its economic, social, and environmental impacts for the present and future, aiming to meet the needs of visitors, the industry, the environment, and local communities. The demand for objective measures like the GSTC Criteria to assess tourism activities highlights the importance of this initiative.
In collaboration with Sakura Company, JAL will provide travelers with sustainable tourism options that meet global standards, fostering new interactions and aiding in addressing challenges such as overtourism, environmental degradation, and the loss of local heritage. JAL is committed to advancing responsible tourism, supporting community rejuvenation, economic growth, and increasing engagement.
Upcoming Efforts Include:
● JAL is committed to enhancing the certification of local lodging establishments by training internal auditors. These auditors, certified after completing the GSTC Auditor Training and passing examinations, will perform audits to guarantee their authenticity.
● By hosting seminars, offering educational and consulting services, and establishing a support system for inquiries from Destination Management Organizations (DMOs) and others, JAL aims to collaborate with local authorities and communities to aid in regional development and promote community engagement.
