Japan Airlines (JAL) has recently sought approval from Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) to revise the fuel surcharge rates for international passenger tickets purchased in Japan between June 1 and July 31, 2024. This request aligns with JAL’s practice of adjusting fuel surcharges bimonthly based on the average price of Singapore kerosene-type jet fuel over a two-month period.

The average price of Singapore kerosene-type jet fuel during February and March 2024 was USD 102.81 per barrel, equivalent to JPY 15,373 based on the average exchange rate of JPY/USD 149.52 during the same timeframe. Consequently, this data places the fuel surcharge benchmark for June to July 2024 in Zone J, as per the fuel surcharge benchmark list for FY2024.

By adhering to these adjustments, JAL aims to accurately reflect fuel cost fluctuations in its pricing structure, ensuring transparency and fairness for passengers purchasing international tickets during the specified period.

As a result, with reference to the fuel surcharge benchmark list for FY2024, this corresponds to Zone J from June to July 2024.
