KLM Expands Winter Travel Network With More Global Flights New Routes And First Airbus A350 Operations

Next winter, KLM will add more destinations, increase frequencies, and add new routes, and fly its first A350. Starting this year on October 25, KLM will operate 164 routes and offer more comfortable and improved options for its customers. Additionally, KLM will improve its fleet operating efficiency. KLM’s A350 will also provide more comfort and flexibility for customers.

The expanded winter programme includes more flights to high-demand leisure and business destinations, the planned return of selected routes and continued investment in newer aircraft. The changes are designed to strengthen international connectivity while offering passengers more choice during the busy winter travel period.

KLM Expands Winter Schedule With 164 Destinations Worldwide

KLM will operate flights to 164 destinations across 64 countries during the winter season. The network will include 93 destinations within Europe and 71 intercontinental destinations.

The airline is increasing capacity on several routes where passenger demand remains strong. The expansion focuses on popular holiday destinations, major business markets and cities attracting winter travellers.

In North America, Minneapolis will return to KLM’s winter schedule for the first time since winter 2023. San Diego will also receive year-round winter service for the first time, providing travellers with more options when planning trips to the United States.

KLM will also increase services to Panama City, with up to 10 flights per week during peak periods. Flights to São Paulo will increase to nine weekly services, improving connections between Europe and South America.

The Caribbean island of Curaçao will receive additional capacity during key travel periods. The destination will normally have nine weekly flights, increasing to 10 flights per week in January and February. During the Christmas holiday period, services will rise to 12 weekly flights, while spring holiday operations will increase to 11 flights per week.

More European Flights Added For Winter Travel Demand

KLM is also strengthening its European network with additional flights to popular winter destinations and city-break locations.

Finnish destinations Rovaniemi and Kittilä will each receive one extra weekly flight. These destinations are popular among travellers seeking northern European winter experiences, including snow activities and seasonal attractions.

Florence in Italy and Basel in Switzerland will each receive one additional daily flight, giving travellers greater flexibility for cultural trips, business journeys and short European breaks.

The increased European capacity reflects growing demand for winter travel and provides more options for passengers looking for convenient connections across the continent.

KLM Plans Route Resumptions Across International Network

Alongside adding capacity, KLM plans to restore several international routes during the winter schedule.

The airline intends to resume flights from Amsterdam to Dubai, Riyadh and Dammam. However, the operation of these services will depend on the security and travel situation in the Middle East when the winter schedule begins.

KLM also plans to continue operating flights between Amsterdam and Tel Aviv after the route restarted on 25 August.

The airline is working towards restarting services to Kigali in Rwanda and Entebbe in Uganda. The Entebbe route was previously removed temporarily following travel and entry restrictions introduced after the Ebola outbreak response.

The return of these routes will depend on the removal of travel restrictions that remain in place at the time of operation.

KLM Improves Passenger Comfort With Enhanced Services

KLM is introducing new onboard improvements to provide passengers with more flexibility and choice during their journey.

From October, Economy Class passengers travelling on European flights will have access to an expanded food and beverage offering through Grand Café KLM.

Passengers will be able to pre-order meals before travelling and choose additional items from the onboard menu. The updated service aims to better meet different passenger preferences and improve the overall short-haul travel experience.

The airline will also increase Premium Comfort capacity on several intercontinental routes. As Airbus A330 aircraft gradually leave the fleet, flights to destinations including Aruba, Bonaire, Riyadh, Dammam and Miami will mainly be operated by Boeing aircraft.

First Airbus A350 Marks New Era For KLM Fleet

A major development in KLM’s winter operations is the arrival of its first Airbus A350 aircraft at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport.

The next-generation aircraft represents a major step in fleet renewal. The Airbus A350 is designed to provide improved fuel efficiency, reduced noise levels and lower environmental impact compared with many older aircraft.

The first passenger service operated by the new aircraft will connect Amsterdam with Toronto. The route will operate 12 times per week, with five services operated by the Airbus A350.

As additional A350 aircraft join the fleet later in the winter season, the aircraft will also be introduced on routes to Montreal, Kilimanjaro, Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar and Nairobi.

The arrival of the A350 supports KLM’s long-term strategy of replacing older aircraft with more efficient models while improving passenger comfort on long-haul journeys.

KLM Continues Efforts To Reduce Airport Noise Impact

Alongside fleet modernisation, KLM will continue adjusting operations to reduce night-time noise around Amsterdam Schiphol Airport.

The airline plans to use newer generation aircraft wherever possible and reduce the number of aircraft movements between 11 pm and 7 am.

These operational changes may result in some passengers experiencing different aircraft types or adjusted departure times on selected routes.

KLM is continuing its expansion of global services during the winter. The services include more flights, greater capacity, and new routes, in addition to delivery of the first of twenty-one Airbus A350 aircraft.

Further, KLM is positioning for growing international air travel. The addition of the A350, and growing focus on improving the passenger experience, as well as fleet standardization, place KLM for the future.
