Chinese online travel platform Tongcheng Travel reported steady financial progress in the second quarter of 2026, with revenue and adjusted profitability increasing compared with the same period a year earlier. The company’s latest performance highlights continued expansion in its business operations, supported by growth in annual paying users and a strong presence across China’s non-first-tier cities.

During the second quarter of 2026, Tongcheng Travel recorded RMB 4.987 billion in revenue, representing a 6.8% year-on-year increase from RMB 4.6694 billion in the second quarter of 2025. The revenue growth reflected the platform’s continued role in China’s expanding online travel market, where digital booking platforms remain an important channel for transportation, accommodation and travel-related services.

The company also reported stronger profitability during the quarter. Adjusted net profit increased to RMB 850.9 million, rising 9.8% year-on-year from RMB 775.1 million recorded during the same period in 2025.

The growth in adjusted net profit exceeded the pace of revenue growth, indicating improved financial performance during the quarter. Tongcheng Travel continued to focus on operational efficiency while maintaining its position as one of China’s major online travel service providers.

Tongcheng Travel Sees Changes in Monthly Paying Users

While the company achieved revenue and profit growth, its average monthly paying user base declined during the reporting period. Average monthly paying users decreased by 5.8% year-on-year to 43.7 million in the second quarter of 2026, compared with 46.4 million in the same quarter of 2025.

The decline in monthly paying users came alongside broader changes in consumer behaviour and travel activity patterns. However, the company’s longer-term customer base remained stable, with annual paying users continuing to grow during the 12-month period ending June 2026.

For the 12 months ended 30 June 2026, Tongcheng Travel recorded 253.9 million annual paying users, marking a 0.9% increase from 251.7 million in the comparable period of 2025.

The rise in annual paying users demonstrates continued engagement among customers who use the platform over a longer period. It also highlights the company’s ability to maintain a broad user network despite fluctuations in monthly activity.

Non-First-Tier Cities Remain Key Market for Tongcheng Travel

Tongcheng Travel continued to maintain a strong presence outside China’s largest metropolitan areas. As of 30 June 2026, more than 87% of the company’s total registered users were from non-first-tier cities.

The strong contribution from these markets reflects the importance of lower-tier cities within China’s travel ecosystem. As tourism demand expands beyond major urban centres, online travel platforms have increasingly focused on reaching customers in smaller cities and regional markets.

Tongcheng Travel’s large user base in non-first-tier cities positions the company to benefit from changing travel trends across a wider range of locations. These markets represent a significant part of China’s domestic travel landscape, where consumers increasingly rely on digital platforms for transport bookings, accommodation arrangements and travel services.

China Travel Giant Tongcheng Travel strengthened its market position in Q2 2026 as revenue and adjusted profit increased, supported by growing annual users and strong demand across non-first-tier cities.

Digital Travel Platforms Continue Expanding Across China

The second-quarter results underline the continued importance of online travel platforms in China’s tourism industry. Digital services have transformed the way travellers plan and purchase travel products, allowing users to access transport options, accommodation choices and other services through integrated platforms.

Tongcheng Travel has built its business around serving a wide customer base, particularly through its reach across regional markets. The company’s continued revenue growth and rising annual paying users demonstrate ongoing demand for digital travel solutions.

The company’s performance during the second quarter of 2026 shows a mixed but stable outlook, with financial growth supported by stronger profitability and sustained annual user engagement. Although monthly paying users declined during the period, the overall customer network remained resilient.

With more than 87% of registered users coming from non-first-tier cities, Tongcheng Travel continues to rely on broad market coverage as a major part of its business strategy. The company’s latest results highlight the evolving nature of China’s online travel sector, where regional markets and long-term customer relationships are becoming increasingly important drivers of growth.
