Hospitality and tourism are among most affected sectors in the wake of the pandemic. Restaurants, airlines, hotels, travel agents, tour operators, and transporters have all witnessed sharp drop in revenue over the past 15 months, and they have had to recalibrate services twice to keep pace with health safety rules and concerns.
These industries are eagerly waiting for the new set of unlock guidelines, which Karnataka state government plans to announce next week. The government hopes that another wave wouldn’t disrupt this phase of much expected recovery.
In north Karnataka and coastal regions, businesses depend on religious tourism and weddings. In Mysuru, home to famous monuments and yoga centers, tourism is the mainstay of the economy.
Hemal Desai, the chief operating officer of Mayur Aditya Resort in Dharwad, said that reopening religious places and allowing social gatherings like weddings with Covid protocols would help revive tourism. Higher vaccination rate is also equally important, Mr. Desai added.
