Coastal Karnataka beaches are popular for their sanitation. However, amplified tourism is taking its toll. Recently, a picture from Mangaluru’s Bengre beach gave rise to a lot of criticism. It displayed waste material scattered all over the beach.
Visit Udupi shared the image of the disorderly beach which was littered with the discarded stuffs like water bottles and plastic wrappings.
The picture went viral; hence, the tourism department of Karnataka advised people to keep up with hygiene and throw leftovers only in dustbins. A Twitter post by Karnataka Tourism urged people to be accountable and not litter the roads. The department said that is a basic habit to keep the environs clean.
Hence, it is an important responsibility to dispose of trash in two separate containers: wet and dry.
Travel aficionados are equally unhappy with the cluttering. A user said that now the whole of coastal Karnataka has such garbage dumps all over, and both tourists andlocals are responsible for that.
Dearth of implementation of law and low-class education and background are responsible for such behavior. There is no common sense of civic duty.
Previously, the South West Railways management in Bengaluru collected the rubbish that was littered around a railway station in the city. They made a demon-shaped sculpture urging people not to throw garbage around. It also received compliments from the PM.
