Kildare County Council has approved a planning application submitted by Westar Investments Limited, aiming to repurpose the existing office areas on the first and second floors into additional hotel accommodation. This enhancement is set to include a total of 17 new rooms, categorized into seven standard hotel bedrooms, four family rooms, and six suites. Alongside the transformation of office and storage areas, as outlined by Construction Information Services, the project will also extend the current food preparation area through the removal of existing toilet facilities on the first floor. Highlighting the site’s historical significance, the documentation emphasizes its location within a protected area. Encompassing over 1,000 square meters, the renovation is anticipated to span a 12-month period.
Benefit to Travel, Tourism, and Hospitality:
- Expansion of Accommodation Options: The addition of 17 new rooms, including family-friendly options and luxurious suites, enriches the local hospitality landscape, catering to a broader range of traveler preferences and needs.
- Enhancement of Local Tourism: By converting office space into hotel accommodation, this project contributes to the revitalization of the area, potentially attracting more visitors to Kildare, known for its rich heritage and cultural significance.
- Economic Growth: The renovation project is expected to stimulate local economic growth by creating jobs during the construction phase and in hotel operations post-completion, benefiting services and businesses in the vicinity.
- Cultural Preservation: The project’s mindful approach towards a site within a protected area demonstrates a commitment to preserving the architectural and historical essence of Kildare, aligning with sustainable tourism practices that value cultural heritage.
- Innovative Use of Space: By repurposing existing structures for new uses, the project sets a precedent for sustainable development within the hospitality industry, showcasing how urban spaces can be creatively adapted to meet changing tourism demands.
