KLM Royal Dutch Airlines will once again suspend its direct flights between Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS) and Minneapolis–St. Paul International Airport (MSP) during the upcoming winter season. The decision affects services scheduled from November 2025 through March 2026.

Seasonal Changes Reflect Strategic Shift

The route, typically operated using KLM’s Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, was originally scheduled to run three times per week during the winter months. However, recent scheduling data indicates the flights have been removed. The airline has not provided a reason for the suspension.

KLM’s Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners are configured to carry 275 passengers in four classes—business, premium economy, economy plus, and economy—and are a key part of the airline’s long-haul fleet.

Service Active for Summer 2025

Despite the winter break, KLM resumed flights on the Amsterdam–Minneapolis route for the summer 2025 season on March 30. The service will continue through October, with flight frequencies gradually decreasing throughout the season. Operations are expected to resume in March 2026 following the winter pause.

Delta Continues to Serve the Route Year-Round

While KLM adjusts its seasonal offerings, Delta Air Lines continues to maintain year-round service between the two cities. The airline operates the route using a combination of Airbus A350-900s, A330-300s, and A330neos.

From July to October 2025, Delta plans to operate 93 monthly flights between Amsterdam and Minneapolis. Beginning in November, flight frequency will decrease to 60 monthly flights, with the A350-900 being replaced by A330neos and A330-300s for the winter period.

Delta’s widebody fleet supports this transatlantic route with flexible seating configurations, offering a mix of business, premium economy, economy plus, and economy cabins. The A350-900 can carry 306 passengers, while the A330neo and A330-300 accommodate 281 and 282 passengers, respectively.

Looking Ahead

KLM’s continued seasonal approach to this transatlantic route highlights a trend of strategic flexibility in response to market demand. Travelers will continue to have options throughout the year thanks to Delta’s consistent presence, with KLM expected to return to the route in spring 2026.
