The Sa Thay District’s People’s Committee has recently announced that the Kon Tum province will be the venue for an exhilarating event that’s sure to captivate both local and international audiences. Scheduled to take place from March 22 to 24, the Kon Tum Open Paragliding Tournament will see participation from around 130 pilots from Vietnam and abroad, competing in a sport that combines thrill, skill, and the beauty of the Central Highlands’ landscape.

This tournament, marking its third iteration, is a highlight of the Culture and Tourism Week 2024 in Kon Tum. It aims not only to provide an exciting competition for participants but also to serve as a significant attraction that showcases the rich cultural and natural heritage of the region. The chosen venue for the opening ceremony, the historical Chu Tan Kra High Point in Ya Xier commune, underscores the event’s deep connection to the locale’s history and natural beauty.

Participants will have the opportunity to showcase their skills in two main categories: precise landing and cross-country (XC) flying.

The latter has been elevated to an international event status, offering paragliders the chance to gain valuable points on the World Paraglider Ranking System (WPRS). This enhancement of the competition’s stature is a clear indication of the tournament’s growing importance in the paragliding community and its potential to draw even greater attention to Kon Tum on a global scale.

The anticipation surrounding the Kon Tum Open Paragliding Tournament is not just about the sport itself. There’s a broader vision at play, with the expectation that the event will significantly contribute to promoting Kon Tum’s image to the world.

By highlighting the stunning natural landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and the warm hospitality of its people, the tournament is poised to become a pivotal moment in the province’s tourism development efforts. The hope is that the event will not only entertain but also inspire more domestic and international tourists to explore Kon Tum, bringing new opportunities for cultural exchange and economic growth to the region.
