IHG Hotels & Resorts (IHG) recently announced the debut of its upscale collection brand, Noted Collection, in Japan, with the signing of two hotels in Tokyo. IHG signed the first two Noted Collection hotels in Japan with two different signing methods. The first is a conversion hotel in Tokyo’s Shinjuku district, and the second is a new construction in Ginza.

The two hotels have been signed through separate partnerships and will introduce the Noted Collection concept to two of Tokyo’s most recognised districts, combining the brand’s focus on individuality, local identity and memorable guest experiences with the character of each neighbourhood.

The first property, developed through an agreement with SC Capital Partners, will become the first Noted Collection conversion hotel signed in Japan. Located in Shinjuku’s lively Kabukicho district, the 207-room hotel is positioned close to the famous Golden Gai area and surrounded by Tokyo’s vibrant retail, entertainment and cultural attractions.

The hotel will reflect the unique atmosphere of Shinjuku, drawing inspiration from the district’s energy, creativity and diverse character. Designed around the Noted Collection philosophy, the property will highlight the local culture and sense of place while offering travellers a stay experience that feels connected to its surroundings.

Before opening in 2027, the hotel will undergo a complete renovation and rebranding process to establish its own identity within the collection. The redesigned property will feature a welcoming lobby area linked with a restaurant and café space, creating an environment where guests can relax, connect and explore the neighbourhood.

The second addition to the brand will be an 81-room new-build hotel in Ginza, developed in partnership with An Consulting. The project represents the first new-build Noted Collection hotel signing in Japan and is scheduled to open in 2029.

Located in Tokyo’s prestigious Ginza 8-chome district, the hotel will place guests in one of the city’s most celebrated areas, known for luxury shopping, world-class dining, cultural attractions and long-established traditions. The property will be within walking distance of both Shimbashi Station and Ginza Station, providing convenient access to Tokyo’s major business, leisure and entertainment areas.

The Ginza hotel will be designed to capture the district’s refined character while adding a modern hospitality experience. The property will feature family-friendly suites and premium facilities, including a restaurant and bar as well as a fitness centre.

By bringing Noted Collection to both Shinjuku and Ginza, IHG aims to offer travellers two contrasting yet equally distinctive Tokyo experiences. One property will showcase the vibrant and energetic personality of Shinjuku, while the other will reflect the elegance and sophistication associated with Ginza.

The expansion strengthens IHG’s presence in Japan’s growing hospitality market and reflects increasing demand for unique, experience-led accommodation. Through Noted Collection, IHG continues to focus on hotels that celebrate local stories, neighbourhood connections and individual design concepts while providing guests with premium stays in key global destinations.

Abhijay Sandilya, Managing Director, Japan & Micronesia, IHG Hotels & Resorts and CEO of IHG ANA Hotels Group Japan, said: “Introducing Noted Collection to Japan through these two signings marks an important milestone for the brand and reflects the strong opportunity we see in the premium segment in Japan. Owners are increasingly looking for flexible brand solutions that allow hotels to maintain their individuality while benefiting from IHG’s global scale, enterprise platform and loyalty programme. We are thrilled to be partnering with owners, SC Capital Partners and An Consulting, to bring the distinct identity of each hotel to life in two dynamic areas of Tokyo.

Noted Collection brings together hotels with their own distinct point of view, character and sense of place, and these two distinctive hotels represent a strong introduction for the brand in Japan. We look forward to growing Noted Collection alongside like-minded owners as we continue to expand our premium portfolio across the country.”

Daisuke Hiramoto, Managing Director, Head of Japan, SC Capital Partners, commented: “Following our acquisition of this property through our Japan Hospitality Fund, we saw an opportunity to enhance the guest experience and maximise the hotel’s potential. IHG Hotels & Resorts was the clear partner for us, given its scale and ability to elevate distinctive hotels while preserving their individuality. We look forward to partnering with IHG and bringing a distinctive Noted Collection experience to Shinjuku.”

Amane Kotani, Representative Director, An Consulting, commented: “We are pleased to collaborate with IHG Hotels & Resorts to bring Japan’s first newly built Noted Collection hotel to life in Ginza. Located in the prestigious Ginza 8-chome district, the hotel will combine a distinctive sense of place with the character and sophistication that define the area. We believe the hotel will create a compelling new hospitality offering for both domestic and international travellers.”

Noted Collection was introduced earlier this year as IHG’s 21st hotel brand, created as a premium collection of independent properties that showcase unique stories, distinctive identities and memorable guest experiences. The brand focuses on celebrating individuality, local culture and a strong connection to each destination, while allowing hotel owners to benefit from IHG’s global network, advanced commercial platforms and the IHG One Rewards loyalty programme.

The latest signings in Japan further strengthen the global growth momentum of Noted Collection, expanding its international pipeline alongside upcoming properties such as Theobalds Estate, Noted Collection by IHG, in the United Kingdom, and Cantonal Hotel Riyadh Noted Collection by IHG in Saudi Arabia. These developments highlight IHG’s continued expansion of the brand across key global markets while bringing more character-driven and locally inspired stays to travellers worldwide.
