Lapita, situated within Dubai Parks™ and Resorts, has taken significant strides towards environmental stewardship by launching a range of sustainability initiatives, underscoring its commitment to eco-conscious practices. The resort has recently embraced hydroponic agriculture, a method that allows for the on-site cultivation of organic vegetables using a soil-less farming technique.

This approach employs a nutrient-rich water solution to grow crops, eliminating the need for pesticides and enhancing the produce’s quality. The fresh produce harvested through this system is directly incorporated into the menus of the hotel’s restaurants, offering guests a genuine farm-to-table dining experience that showcases the freshness and quality of the ingredients.

The implementation of these sustainability initiatives by Lapita is poised to have a positive impact on local tourism, appealing to an increasingly eco-conscious traveller demographic. Guests are now offered an enhanced dining experience with fresh, organic produce, while the resort’s efforts in recycling and reducing water consumption contribute to a greener hospitality environment.

These practices not only set a precedent for environmental responsibility within the tourism industry but also enhance the resort’s appeal to visitors who prioritise sustainability in their travel choices.

In addition to its agricultural innovations, Lapita is taking steps to reduce its water footprint by introducing an in-house water bottling system that relies on reusable glass bottles. Furthermore, in partnership with Simply Bottles, the resort has initiated a plastic bottle recycling campaign.

This programme recycles plastic bottles collected on the premises into threads, which are then used to manufacture various items, including clothing, caps, and bags, contributing to the circular economy.

Lapita is distinguished as the UAE’s inaugural Polynesian-themed resort to achieve the Green Key Certification, reflecting its dedication to sustainable tourism. This esteemed certification influences all operational decisions at the hotel, from energy conservation measures to waste management practices.

Emphasising its holistic approach to sustainability, Lapita has also introduced ‘Meatless Mondays’ for its staff. This initiative aims to reduce the environmental impact of meat production by promoting vegetarianism and reducing waste among the hotel’s employees.
