Recent findings from London Luton Airport (LLA) reveal that when selecting holiday companions, mothers take the top spot as the Most Valued Passenger. Approximately 30% of travelers expressed a preference for vacations with their mothers over friends. Despite acknowledging a lack of quality time spent with their mothers — a sentiment shared by 22% of those surveyed — the interest in traveling together is strong. About 69% of participants are keen on solo trips with their moms to enhance their relationship (71%), create enduring memories (59%), and express gratitude for their mothers’ contributions (48%).
The prospect of holidaying with mothers is seen as a guaranteed way to spend quality time for 71% of respondents, with nearly half (48%) eager to establish “mum-ventures” as a new tradition. Furthermore, 66% reminisce about family holidays with their mothers as among their most cherished childhood experiences.
In anticipation of Mother’s Day weekend, with over 135,000 passengers expected at LLA, the airport is enhancing the celebration by offering complimentary lounge access and fast-track security passes to travelers accompanied by their mothers.
The survey indicates a growing desire to foster stronger maternal bonds, with 38% of participants looking to increase their efforts in appreciating their mothers, including more frequent calls (25%) and acknowledging her support (52%). Holidays with mothers are viewed by 61% as a means to strengthen their relationship, and 43% see it as an opportunity to rejuvenate their connection.
Out of 2,000 respondents, over half (57%) aspire to surprise their mothers with a holiday for Mothering Sunday, and nearly one in five (19%) place more importance on this celebration compared to other occasions like Christmas, birthdays, or anniversaries.

Regarding adventures for moms, 66% of adults are eager for the thrill of urban escapes, 59% seek the calm of beach vacations, and 50% yearn for the luxury of upscale trips.
