Lufthansa flight LH964 to Edinburgh diverts to Amsterdam due to odd cabin smell, lands safely; passengers rerouted, no safety issues.
A flight heading to Edinburgh had to unexpectedly land due to a peculiar odor detected in the aircraft.
The Lufthansa service, flight number LH964, was traveling from Frankfurt towards Edinburgh Airport. However, while crossing the North Sea, the crew sensed an odd aroma in the Airbus A320’s cabin, necessitating a detour to Amsterdam on Sunday.
Shortly after departing, the crew noticed the strange scent and decided to reroute the flight, landing safely at Schipol Airport around 10:20 pm, as per reports from Aviation Source News.
A representative from Lufthansa stated, “On January 21, 2024, Lufthansa flight LH964, flying from Frankfurt to Edinburgh with 84 passengers and six crew on board, was redirected to Amsterdam due to an unusual odor in the cabin.
“As a precautionary measure, the crew opted to land at a nearby airport. The Airbus A320-Neo, with registration D-AINC, landed smoothly at the airport. There was no emergency declaration, and the flight’s safety was always maintained.
“Passengers were arranged alternative flights by the staff, first returning to Frankfurt and then onwards to Edinburgh. After maintenance inspection, the aircraft returned to service the following day with no technical issues found.”
