The grand opening of the “Celebrations of the 25th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) – Parade for Celebration of the Year of the Dragon 2024″ took place at Sai Van Lake Square on the evening of February 12, the third day of Chinese New Year. This event, which marks a significant milestone in the festivities, was followed by the inaugural spectacular display of the Chinese New Year Fireworks. Both locals and tourists alike reveled in the festivities, commemorating the Chinese New Year as well as the quarter-century milestone of the Macao SAR’s establishment.

The event was graced by the presence of Macao’s Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng, alongside his spouse, and a host of dignitaries including Lei Wai Nong, the Secretary for Economy and Finance, and other key figures from various sectors, all of whom played pivotal roles in the ceremony’s commencement.

Organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the parade was a collaborative effort led by the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and supported by numerous organizations, symbolizing a unified effort to enhance Macao’s reputation as a global hub for tourism and leisure through the “tourism +” initiative.

Lei Wai Nong highlighted the SAR Government’s dedication to enriching the tourism and leisure sector, emphasizing a strategic approach towards economic diversification and integration of tourism with other sectors. This strategy aims to provide visitors with unforgettable experiences and contribute to Macao’s sustainable economic growth.

The parade, along with other Chinese New Year festivities, has been recognized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism as key components of the “Happy Chinese New Year” celebration, showcasing the wide array of attractions Macao offers to visitors.

The parade featured an array of dynamic performances and floats, with artists from both Hong Kong and Macao contributing to a vibrant atmosphere. The extended parade route to Macau Fisherman’s Wharf introduced additional performances, enhancing the festive spirit.

A highlight of the celebrations, the Chinese New Year Fireworks Displays, added a spectacular touch to the festivities, with several shows planned to light up the sky above Macao.

Moreover, the floats will be displayed at various locations, providing photo opportunities for residents and visitors, further amplifying the festive mood.

The synergy of “Tourism + Events” is evident in the plethora of activities organized throughout the Chinese New Year, underscoring Macao’s commitment to offering a rich tapestry of experiences to its visitors, with the aim of lighting up Macao and enriching the festive atmosphere until the end of February.
