Majority of Americans eager to upkeep or amplify hotel stays in 2024, survey finds

According to a survey commissioned by the American Hotel & Lodging Association and conducted by Morning Consult, 72% of Americans express their intention to either maintain or increase their hotel stays in 2024 compared to the previous year. Hotels continue to be the preferred lodging choice for likely travelers.

The survey, conducted from January 6-7, 2024, reveals that 53% of Americans plan overnight leisure travel in the next four months, while 32% plan overnight business trips. Notably, 71% of likely business travelers and 50% of likely leisure travelers still favor hotels as their top choice for accommodation.

Despite the positive outlook for the hotel industry, the survey identifies inflation as a hindrance to reaching full potential for hotels and other travel-related businesses. Over the next four months:

AHLA President & CEO Chip Rogers commented on the survey, stating that while 2024 holds tremendous potential for hoteliers and employees, challenges persist, particularly regarding inflation. Despite these challenges, hoteliers remain optimistic about providing excellent services throughout the year. The poll involved 2,202 U.S. adults, and the results have a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points, with interviews conducted online and data weighted to approximate a target sample based on various demographic factors.
